DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) and redshirt junior goalkeeper Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team have been selected to compete in the 2024 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Division I Senior Bowl.
Rainey is one of two goalkeepers chosen, while Guarente is among eight forwards and 27 Division I players selected overall. The match is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, at 12 p.m. on the campus of Clark University in Worcester, Mass.
Guarente was named the America East Striker of the Year, becoming just the fourth Wildcat to earn this honor. She led the conference with six game-winning goals, ranking fourth nationally in that category. Her 10 goals were the most among America East strikers, and she finished third in the league in total points with 22. Guarente tallied multiple points in eight games this season and earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Off the field, she was named to the America East All-Academic Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team for the third consecutive year. She is also a CSC Academic All-America finalist, advancing to the national ballot for voting.
Rainey, a co-captain, was named America East Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive season, making her the only UNH goalie to achieve back-to-back honors and just the fourth in conference history to do so. She recorded 52 saves over 1,620 minutes, including a career-high nine saves in a draw against Louisville.
Rainey led the conference in shutouts (nine), including five against America East opponents, and had the league's best goals-against average (0.778). Nationally, she ranked 20th in GAA and 22nd in shutouts. Rainey was named to the CSC Academic All-District, America East All-Academic, and First Team All-Conference lists for the second straight year. She is also a CSC Academic All-America finalist, advancing to the national ballot.
The NEWISA Senior Bowl brings together players from NCAA Division I, II and III colleges in New England for one final game following the conclusion of their last collegiate season. NEWISA Senior Bowl eligibility is open to all players who will graduate from undergraduate studies during the 2024-2025 academic year and any graduate student playing a final season this current school year.
This marks the fourth consecutive year UNH will have players represented in the Senior Bowl, with Francesca Picicci (2021), Cat Sheppard (2022), and Alivia Kelly (2023) preceding this year's honorees.
