Three Wildcats Earn America East Major Awards

UNH to play Bryant in America East semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 13
BOSTON - Three members of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team won America East major awards as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Graduate student Matthew Goncalves (Everett, Mass.) was named the Striker of the Year, senior Erik Lauta (Aptos, Calif.) garnered Goalkeeper of the Year honors and freshman Max Voigt (Oberkotzau, Germany) earned Rookie of the Year accolades.
Goncalves is the fourth Wildcat to win Striker of the Year (Tola Showunmi-2021, Robin Schmidt-2017, Chris Banks-2006).
This is the 10th time a member of UNH men's soccer has received Goalkeeper of the Year (Joseba Incera-2023, Alejandro Robles-2019 & 2020, Lars Huxsohl-2018, Travis Worra-2013, Colin O'Donnell-2009 & 2010, Brian Levey-2005 & 2006).
Voigt is only the second Wildcat to be named Rookie of the Year (Chris Banks-2006).
The Wildcats (7-3-6, 4-1-2 AE) are the America East Regular Season Champions for the sixth consecutive season and are the No. 1 seed in the six-team America East Tournament. UNH is the first program to win six straight regular season titles. UNH will play No. 4 seed Bryant in the America East Semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Wildcat Stadium at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on UNHWildcats.com/BuyTickets.
With a win, the Wildcats would play in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Wildcat Stadium at 2 p.m. versus either No. 2 seed Vermont and No. 3 seed UMBC. UNH is looking to win its fifth America East Tournament in the last seven seasons.
Goncalves, who recently earned All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honors, leads the team with 10 goals and 22 points this season, while he is also first with four game-winning goals. He is ranked first in the conference in goals, points and game-winning goals. His four game-winning goals are 11th in the country, while his 10 goals are 23rd. He is tied for ninth in program history for goals for a season. Goncalves is a two-time recipient of America East Offensive Player of the Week award. For his collegiate career, he has 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points which includes four years at Cornell.
Lauta has started in all 16 games this season with a 7-3-6 record and five shutouts. He was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week two times this season. His .818 goals against average is third in the league and 16th nationally, while his .794 save percentage is also third in the conference and 20th nationally.
Voigt has played in 12 games with 10 starts on defense. He posted his first collegiate point with an assist in the 5-1 win at UAlbany. He has been a part of a defense that is second in the conference with a .813 goals against average which is also 11th in the country.
