Cookman and Meijer Both Record Goal and Assist in 3-2 Win vs. UC Davis

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward captain Tasmin Cookman (London, England) and freshman midfielder Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) both recorded a goal and an assist to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Friday afternoon's 3-2 victory against UC Davis at Memorial Field.
Meijer, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, set up Cookman's goal in the eighth minute and then Cookman set up Meijer's tally in the 21st minute.
Sophomore midfielder Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands), the reigning America East Offensive Player of the Week, scored UNH's other goal with Brecken Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) getting the assist.
UNH goalie Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) made four saves while UC Davis counterpart Emma Giesting stopped 13 shots; she was pulled in favor of an extra field player with 3:46 remaining.
Katie Kim and Karly Redman scored the Aggies' goals.
UNH extended its win streak to three games to improve to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in America East. UC Davis is now 2-7, 0-3.

- The Wildcats continue their eight-game homestand Oct. 6 (1 p.m.) against Northeastern University.

- UNH recorded a 9-3 shot advantage in the opening 15 minutes but the scoring was even, 1-1.
- Giesting was sharp in the opening minute as she denied three of UNH's top scorers – Cookman, Meijer and Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario).
- Cookman collected Meijer's long hit at the top of the circle and blasted a reverse-stick shot into the cage to give UNH a 1-0 lead at 7:19.
- UC Davis leveled the score, 1-1, at 12:08 when Kim's high shot from the top-left sailed under the crossbar.

- New Hampshire scored the only two goals of the second quarter with a 5-4 shot advantage.
- Meijer settled the ball near the top of the circle and swept a shot into the cage to put the Wildcats back in front, 2-1, at 20:45. Cookman, with the pass from the right wing, was credited with the assist.
- Knuttel extended the advantage to 3-1 less than four minutes later. On extended pressure from a penalty corner, Calcari slipped a pass from the right end line to the middle of the circle, where Knuttel tucked the ball into the cage at 24:08,

- UNH recorded a 4-2 shot advantage in the scoreless third period.

- The 'Cats had a 3-1 edge in shots in the final 15 minutes, but it was the Aggies who scored the lone goal of the fourth quarter.
- Redman lifted UC Davis within 3-2 at 50:17,
