UNH Clinches Share of America East Title with 6-0 Win on Senior Day

Senior captain Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) and junior Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) both finished with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) and freshman Marlijn Swaan (Hilversum, Netherlands) both scored a goal, while senior captain Tasmin Cookman (London, England) and junior Louette Petiet (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) were credited with an assist.
Sophomore goalkeepers Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) and Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) combined to shut out the Bulldogs. Neither goalie was credited with a save.
Bryant goalie Maud van Lierop made six saves and Claire Joss had a defensive save.
UNH extended its winning streak to three games to improve to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in America East. Bryant ends the regular season at 4-13, 0-5.
UP NEXT
- UNH advances directly to the America East semifinals. As the No. 2 seed, the Wildcats will play a home semifinal Nov. 4 (2pm) against the winner of the first round matchup between No. 3 UAlbany and #6 Bryant.
- The semifinal winner advances to play in the Nov. 7 championship game.
FIRST QUARTER
- UNH scored goals less than four minutes apart to quickly take a 2-0 lead.
- The Wildcats converted a penalty corner into a goal at 4:47 when Swaan scored on a low, hard shot from the top of the circle inside the left post. The battery of MacNeil and Cookman set up the tally.
- Knuttel extended the advantage to 2-0 at 8:22. Poulakis advanced to the end line in the right side of the circle and her centering pass to the front of the cage was redirected in by Knuttel.
SECOND QUARTER
- Knuttel struck again at 18:31 when she edged past a defender from the top-left of the shooting circle to the middle, where she stuck a bouncing shot into the cage while sliding to the turf.
- Meijer made it 4-0 at 26:29. From the right corner, Petiet received a return pass from Brecken Calcari (Saint Louis, Mo.) to enter the circle along the end line. Petiet's centering pass to the penalty stroke dot was corralled by Meijer, who settled the ball and ripped a low shot into the cage.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH converted another corner into a goal and 5-0 lead at 32:56. MacNeil inserted the ball to the top of the circle and, after the stop by Cookman, Knuttel struck the ball back to MacNeil and she swept the ball inside the near post.
- Poulakis gave the 'Cats a 6-0 lead at 37:29 when she collected a pass low on the right side, pulled the ball back to create the angle to lift the ball into the upper-right corner.
FOURTH QUARTER
- New Hampshire recorded a 3-0 shot advantage in the scoreless fourth quarter.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- This is UNH's first America East regular-season title since 2013; those Wildcats went on to win the tournament title.
- Johnson and Ross combined to shut out the opponent for the second time this season.
- Overall, UNH has four clean sheets this season.
- Knuttel had a season-high five points and matched her season high of two goals.
- MacNeil finished with a career-high three points.
- Poulakis extended her goal streak to seven games and point streak to 13 with Thursday's goal. She has 20 goals and eight assists for 48 points during the streak.
- On UNH's career leaderboard, Poulakis is #2 in both goals (57) and points (143); Poulakis is #5 in career assists (29).
- On the program's single-season leaderboard, Poulakis is #6 in goals (20) and is #5 in points (48).
- Cookman is #4 in. career assists (30), #5 in points (132) and #6 in goals (51).
- UNH honored six Wildcats in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony – Calcari, Cookman, Poulakis, Madilynn Clark (Evanston, Ill.), Tamera Cookman (London, England) and Chloe Miller (Perkiomen Valley, Pa.).
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH finished with the edge in shots (22-4), shots on goal (13-0) and penalty corners (6-3).
