Swaan, Calcari Score in NCAA First Round Loss at Harvard

Swaan scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute and Calcari gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Junior Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) recorded an assist on both goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) made seven saves, including one on a penalty stroke in the third quarter that kept the 'Cats within 3-2.
Harvard, which pulled away with four goals in the fourth quarter, was led by Sage Piekarski (three goals, assist) and Emily Bronckers (2g). Linde Burger was credited with three saves.
UNH ends the season with a 12-7 record. Harvard is 18-1 and advances to the second round.

FIRST QUARTER
- Harvard recorded a 4-0 shot advantage in the scoreless first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH converted its first corner into its first shot an 1-0 lead at 16:19. MacNeil inserted a pass to the top of the circle, where Tasmin Cookman (London, England) executed the stick-stop and Swaan flicked a high shot over the defense and goalie into the cage.
- The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead at 22:58 when MacNeil's centering pass from the left corner was stopped by Calcari, who turned and fired a shot into the cage for her first goal of the season.
- Harvard capitalized on a corner when Piekarski batted in her own rebound from close range at 24:55 and she scored 1:55 later to level the score, 2-2.
- The Crimson generated another corner in the 28th minutes, but Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) blocked the shot and made a diving effort to clear the ball out of the circle.
THIRD QUARTER
- Harvard was awarded a corner two minutes into the third quarter but Johnson denied Lara Beekhuis on the initial shot and Martha le Huray.
- It led to third and fourth corners in succession and a goal by Tilly Butterworth that gave the home team a 32- lead at 32:38.
- Johnson made a huge save on a penalty stroke at 36:34 when she dove to her left to block away Bronte-May Brough's shot.
- Harvard took a 4-2 lead at 41:44 when Brough scored on a corner.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH pressured early in the fourth quarter and earned a corner at 46:05 Swaan's low, hard shot from the top of the circle was stopped by Burger. Cookman corralled the rebound near the top of the circle and blasted a low shot wide left of the cage.
- le Huray and Bronckers scored 58 seconds apart to quickly extend the lead to 6-2 at 50:47.
- Bronckers struck again at 54:25 to push the score to 7-2.
- Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) beat two defenders on the left side, carried the ball on her stick and lifted a shot over the crossbar in the 58th minutes.
- Piekarski scored with 39 seconds left.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH, which won its fifth America East title last week to earn a berth into the NCAA tournament, made its 11thNCAA tourney appearance.
- The Wildcats are the first team this season to score two goals in a quarter against Harvard, which entered the game ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense (0.65 goals allowed per game).
- UNH is the third team this season (19 games) to score multiple goals against the Crimson.
- MacNeil matched her career high of two assists. She also had two assists this season at Providence, vs. Stonehill and at UMass Lowell.
- Cookman, named to the All-Conference First Team for the fourth consecutive year, caps her Wildcat career #4 all-time in assists (33), #5 in points (135) and #6 in goals (51).
- Poulakis, the America East Offensive Player of the Year, saw her goal streak end at nine games and point streak at 15. She had 23 goals and eight assists for 54 points during the streak.
- Poulakis ends her UNH career ranked #2 in both goals (60) and points (149), as well as #5 in career assists (29).
- Poulakis is #8 on the America East all-time leaderboard in both goals and points.
- On the program's single-season leaderboard, Poulakis tied for #3 in goals (23) with Whitney Frates (2011) and Meg Shea (2009). Poulakis is #5 in points (54).
- In addition to Calcari, Cookman and Poulakis, the end of the 2025 season marks end of UNH careers for Madilynn Clark (Evanston, Ill.), Tamera Cookman (London, England), Chloe Miller (Collegeville, Pa.).
