Meijer, Poulakis Lead UNH Past Maine, 4-2

Junior captain Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) and sophomore Kay Murphy (Wrentham, Mass.) scored UNH's other two goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) was credited with four saves.
Maine goalie Rozarie Mrazova stopped six shots. Saylor Kuefler and Nicole Kowalewski both scored a goal.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in America East. Maine is now 3-9, 0-2 AE.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH recorded all nine shots and both penalty corners in the opening 15 minutes.
- In the seventh minute, Knuttel's diving redirection in the middle of the circle was stopped by Mrazova.
- The Wildcats were awarded a penalty stroke at 11:23 but Poulakis lifted a shot wide left of the cage.
- Less than a minute later, Poulakis attacked along the right end line and her close-range shot was knocked down by Mrazova.
- Poulakis broke through to givthe 'cats a 1-0 lead at 12:50. At midfield, Meijer swung the ball to Poulakis on the right wing. She raced past two defenders into the circle along the right endline and tucked a low shot past Mrazova inside the far post.
SECOND QUARTER
- Maine recorded a 3-2 shot advantage in the second quarter and scored the lone goal of the frame.
- The Black Bears generated a corner in the 18th minute and Kowalewsi's direct shot was stopped by Johnson then cleared off the goal line by Knuttel to preserve the one-goal lead.
- Maine converted a corner into a goal by Kowalewski at 24:10 to level the score, 1-1.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH was outshot 3-2 again in the third quarter but the Wildcats scored on both shots to take a 3-1 lead through 45 minutes.
- Poulakis chased down a bouncing ball on the right wing, advanced to end line and Murphy swept the centering pass into the cage to put New Hampshire back in front, 2-1, at 36:50.
- Meijer's unassisted goal at 44:20 extended the lead to 3-1. She surged past a defender at midfield and another at the 25. Meijer briefly lost control of the ball at the top of circle, but she pivoted to top left and blasted a low, reverse-stick shot inside far post.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH generated a 7-1 shot advantage with a 6-0 edge in corners in the closing 15 minutes.
- The 'Cats capitalized on a corner to push the advantage to 4-1 at 48:49. From the top of the circle, Knuttel swung a pass to the right and then blasted Meijer's return pass into the cage.
- Kuefler trimmed the deficit to 4-2 at 57:41.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Poulakis extended her point streak to eight games with Friday's goal and assist. She has 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points during the streak.
- Poulakis has factored in multiple goals each of the past four games and in six games this season.
- Knuttel has scored a goal in seven of the last eight games.
- Meijer has factored in multiple goals in a game three times this season,
- It was the first career goal and points for Murphy.
- On UNH's career leaderboard, Poulakis is #4 in assists (28), is #5 in points (122), and is #7 in goals (47).
- Cookman is #4 in points (125), is tied #5 in assists (27) and is #6 in goals (49).

- UNH finished with the edge in shots (20-7), shots on goal (10-6) and corners (9-5).
