MONTREAL – Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario), a five-year standout on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, recently signed a one-year contract to play for the Montreal Force of the Premier Hockey Federation.
Rickwood shattered the UNH record for career games played at 165 with totals of 12 goals and 42 assists for 54 points. As a reliable two-way player, the defender topped the Wildcats' leaderboard in blocked shots two of the past three seasons with 63 last season and 59 – in just 22 games – in the 2020-21 season; in between, she ranked second in blocked shots with 60 in 2021-22.
Rickwood received a number of academic awards as a UNH Wildcat and that included being a four-time American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholar. She was named to the Hockey East Women's All-Academic Team every year, and recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA in both 2021-22 and 2022-23 to earn a spot on the Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team as a Top Scholar-Athlete.
Rickwood was the recipient of the UNH women's hockey program's Colleen Coyne Best Defensive Player Award in 2022-23 for, among other things, her ability to block shots as she ranked second in Hockey East as well as 12th in the nation in that statistic.
Rickwood blocked a shot attempt in 27 of 36 games with multiple blocks 20 times, including a stretch of four consecutive games from Nov. 11-19. She recorded a season-high six blocks in the opener vs. Union College. She was credited with four at Merrimack College (Feb. 11), as well as vs. St. Cloud State (Jan. 6) and Nov. 4 vs. Northeastern University; Rickwood finished with three blocks seven times.
Offensively, Rickwood tied for second among UNH blueliners in both goals (four) and assists (six), as well as third in points (10).
Rickwood is the fifth UNH Wildcat to sign with a PHF team in the 2023 offseason. Earlier this year, Jonna (Curtis) Albers '17 re-signed with the Minnesota Whitecaps, Taylor Wenczkowski '20 re-signed with the Boston Pride, Tori Howran '20 re-signed with the Connecticut Whale and Kacey Bellamy '09 ended her retirement by signing with the Whale.
