AMESBURY, Mass. – Eighteen student-athletes on the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team were named to Hockey East's 2022-23 Women's All-Academic Team. The announcement was made by the league Tuesday.
Four Wildcats – Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island), Nicky Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.), Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) and Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) – were among a total of 22 women's players to earn the prestigious honor of being named Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athlete for compiling a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the 2022-23 academic year.
Those 22 student-athletes, including the four 'Cats, also comprise the 2022-23 Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team, which recognizes the highest GPA by position.
Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.), Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) and Harnett were the three Wildcats among the 27 women's Hockey East players who received Distinguished Scholar status by qualifying for the All-Academic Team each of the past four seasons.
Boutilier was one of only two players named to the All-Academic Team for the sixth consecutive year, while Martin and Gabby Jones (Westfield, Mass.) were two of 12 players who earned All-Academic Team accolades for the fifth consecutive year; Jones received the honor all four years while at Merrimack College prior to playing for New Hampshire.
Every student-athlete on the 2022-23 Hockey East All-Academic Team achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in both academic semesters of competition. A total of 185 student-athletes were honored on this year's women's team to tie the record established a year ago.
Senior Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) made the All-Academic Team for the third time, as did juniors Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario).
Senior Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) and junior Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) are both second time honorees. Sophomores Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.), Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) and Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) all received the accolade for the second time in as many years.
In her first year as a UNH Wildcat, grad student Emily Pinto (New Liskeard, Ontario) was named to the All-Academic Team. Freshman Autumn Mish (Long Lake, N.Y.) also made the grade in her first year as a Wildcat, and junior Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) was also recognized.
