O’Hern Breaks 47-Year-Old Record in Outdoor Mile at Friar Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.) set a new outdoor mile school record with a time of 4:05.64 as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed in the Friar Invitational at the Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field Friday evening.

Senior Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.) finished tenth in the metric mile to lead the 'Cats with a time of 4:05.64 and set the outdoor mile school record. The previous school record was set by George Reed in 1976 which was a time of 4:08.60. The 47-year-old record was the oldest standing UNH school record for both men's indoor and outdoor track and field.
Sophomore Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) had the next-best finish in the metric mile for the 'Cats with a time of 4:10.38. Sophomore Brayden Kearns (Deerfield, N.H.) and freshman Samuel Hilts (Concord, N.H.) also competed in the event.
Seniors William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Kenney McElroy (West Linn. Ore.) crossed the finish line back-to-back to come in 10th and 11th place in the 800m run. Curran finished in 1:53.97 and McElroy was close behind with a time of 1:54.04.

The 'Cats traveled as a split squad this weekend and will conclude the UConn Northeast Challenge tomorrow afternoon. The Wildcats return to action when they travel to Cushing Field Complex at UMass Lowell on Friday, April 21-Satuday, April 22.
