UNH’s Yoofi Abaka-Amuah Wins Gold on Final Day of AE Championships

Abaka-Amuah was named Most Outstanding Field Performer and Won Coaches Award
RESULTS
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) won gold in the shot put and silver in the discus on Sunday as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team concluded the America East Championships at the Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats placed sixth with 81.5 points. UAlbany won the team championship with 163.5 points.
Abaka-Amuah was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer and also won the Coaches Award for recording the most points with 22 over the two days. This is the sixth time a Wildcat has won Most Outstanding Field Athlete as the last time was 2019 when Nathan Hobbs earned the honor. This is only the second time a 'Cat has won the Coaches Award with Jordan Horwitz winning in 2008. He won his first career America East title with a throw of 59'0.25" to earn 10 points for the team in the shot put. He also placed second in the discus with a personal-best toss of 171'3".
Junior Kyran Maher (Andover, Mass.) earned the silver in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 16'0" to tally eight points.
Junior Max LaPointe (Amesbury, Mass.) was third in the discus with a personal record throw of 159"8'.
Graduate student Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) took bronze in the 1,500 meter in a time of 3:53.67 to pick up six points as he was just 0.52 behind Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger of UMass Lowell who won the event in 3:53.15. Senior Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) was seventh to tally two points with a time of 3:55.19.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Shea, Finn, sophomore Julian Rime (New City, N.Y.) and junior Joshua Lesniak (Durham, Conn.) recorded a third-place finish in a time of 7:36.52 to add six points to the team total.
The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman James Gecek (High Bridge, N.J.), sophomore Avery Cipcic (Suffield, Conn.), junior Michael Mulcahy (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshman Danny Anderson (Naugatuck, Conn.) placed sixth to secure three points with a time of 42.97.
Freshman Alain Twite (Concord, N.H.) posted a sixth-place finish in the triple-jump at 45'11.75" for three points.
Rime recorded two points for the Wildcats as he placed seventh in the 800 meter run with a PR of 1:52.68.
Junior John Murphy (Deerfield, N.H.) placed seventh in the 5,000 meter run to post two points with a PR of 14:22.97.
Junior Jayson Blaisdell (Barrington, N.H.) was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 172'5" for two points.
Sophomore Gunnar Sokol (Berwick, Maine) tied for seventh in the high jump at 6'3.25" to score 1.5 points.
The 4x400 relay team of Gecek, graduate student William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Mulcahy and Anderson were eighth with a time of 3:22.56 for one point.
The Wildcats will return to action on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10 for the New England Championships at UMass.
