Washam, Rome Go 1-2 in Hammer Throw at George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team opened the George Davis Invitational with a one-two finish in the hammer throw, as junior Jack Washam (Nashua, N.H.) won the event with a mark of 56.55 meters and senior Max Rome (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed second at 51.26 meters.
Competing against athletes from the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, and other top conferences at the Virginia Challenge, junior Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth in the shot put with a personal-best 17.73 meters.
In the invitational section of the hammer throw, junior Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.) took seventh with a mark of 62.38 meters. In another section of the event, Caden Zalenski placed 11th (56.99m), and Abaka-Amuah added a 17th-place finish (55.09m), giving the Wildcats two top-20 performers.
Graduate student Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) ran a personal best of 3:45.03 in the 1,500-meter to secure a top-15 finish, just shy of the UNH program record (3:44.66).
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow at both the George Davis Invitational in Lowell and the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville.
