Liam McGovern Defends Hammer Throw Title on Day 1 of America East Championships

‘Cats are in second place after a weather-shortened first day
RESULTS
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.) defended his title in the hammer throw as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed on Day 1 of the America East Championships at the Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats are in second place through three events with 21 points after a weather-shortened first day of action. Maine is currently in first place with 23 points.
Four Wildcats earned points for the team in the hammer throw. McGovern won the gold with a personal record throw of 212'11" to gain 10 points and to capture his second straight America East Outdoor championship in this event. Junior Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) was fourth (196'10) to secure five points, junior Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) placed fifth (193'1) with a personal-best throw to pick up four points and junior Jack Washam (Nashua, N.H.) was seventh (181'2") to tally two points.
Senior Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) and graduate student Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) each qualified for the 1,500 meter run. Finn placed second in the heat and posted the fifth best time (3:51.47) and Shea was third in the heat and recorded the seventh best time (3:51.55).
The Wildcats will conclude the America East Championships on Sunday, May 4.
