Wildcats Fall to Providence, 2-1 in OT, to Conclude Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jamie Engelbert scored the game-winning overtime goal for the Friars as the No. 10 seed University of New Hampshire's men's hockey team fell to No. 7 seed Providence, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Schneider Arena in the Opening Round of the Hockey East Tournament.
The Wildcats conclude the season 11-21-3, while the Friars improve to 15-13-7 and advance to the quarterfinals to play Northeastern on Saturday, March 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Providence took an early 1-0 lead when Craig Needham knocked in a loose puck glove side at 7:01.
- The Wildcats tied the game at 1-1 at 3:09 of the second period, when sophomore forward Conor Lovett (Franklin, Mass.) blasted a one timer from the slot stick side for his first goal as a Wildcat. Sophomore forward Connor Sweeney (North Andover, Mass.) sent the pass to Lovett to set up the goal. Junior defenseman Luke Reid (Warman, Saskatchewan) also posted an assist on the goal.
- Neither team was able to score in the third period as the game went to overtime.
- Providence won the game at 1:41 of overtime when Engelbert sent a one-timer to the back of the net off a pass by Patrick Moynihan.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) posted 28 saves, while Philip Svedeback had 22 saves to earn the win.
- Providence outshot UNH, 30-23.
- The Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play and the Friars went 0-1.
