Blair Stops 29 of 33 Shots in 5-0 Loss to Dartmouth

DURHAM, N.H. -- Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 29 saves on 33 shots but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 5-0 by Dartmouth College on Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
Blair made 11 saves in both the first and third periods. She was pulled in favor of an extra skater with 3:52 remaining in the game and reentered following Dartmouth's empty-net goal at 18:26.
DC goalie Eleanor Rogers made seven of her 15 saves in the third period to preserve the shutout. Jenna Donohue and Vanessa Stamper both recorded a goal and an assist. Mina Buonarosa, Cally Dixon and Shae Messner were the other goal scorers.
UNH now has an overall record of 9-10-1 and Dartmouth is 4-12-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- Dartmouth generated a 13-3 shot advantage in the opening 20 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
- UNH had one of its best scoring opportunities of the game at 6:35 when Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) ripped a shot from the left faceoff dot that ricocheted off the near post.
- Stamper's first goal of the season gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at 12:38 and Buonarosa scored 84 seconds later to quickly turn a scoreless game into a 2-0 Dartmouth lead.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Big Green recorded an 8-5 edge in shots in the second period despite UNH's three power-play opportunities.
- DC extended the lead to 3-0 at 17:52 when Dixon, in the slot, redirected Kenzie Bachelor's shot from the right point.
THIRD PERIOD
- Dartmouth had a 13-7 shot advantage in the final frame.
- The Wildcats were once again denied by the left post midway through the third period when a one-timer by Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) from a faceoff in the left circle rang off the iron.
- Donohue, off a feed from Laura Fuoco in the low slot, shoveled the puck into the open left side of the net to give Dartmouth a 4-0 lead at 13:21.
- UNH went on its fifth power play of the game with 5:16 remaining and pulled Blair with 3:52 on the clock to create a 6-on-4 advantage.
- After the penalty expired, Rogers turned aside shots by Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) at 17:31 and Leonard at 18:18 to keep the 'Cats scoreless.
- On the ensuing faceoff, Stamper blocked a shot, Messner corralled the puck in the slot and quickly sent a shot the length of the ice into the empty net to give DC a 5-0 lead at 18:26.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Dartmouth recorded the edge in shots (34-15), faceoffs (29-20) and blocks (13-6).
- UNH was 0-for-5 on the power play and the Big Green was 0-for-1.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire's penalty kill has been perfect each of the last six games and has successfully killed off 18 consecutive opponent power plays dating back to Nov. 11.
- Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) was credited with a team-high two blocks.
- Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) led the Wildcats with six faceoff wins.
- Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) won 4 of 6 faceoffs.
- This was the last of seven consecutive home games for the Wildcats; the extended homestand began Nov. 11.
