Verrier Records Three Points in 5-3 Loss to Boston U.

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team recorded a career-high three points in Saturday's 5-3 home loss to Boston University at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
Verrier's two goals came within 91 seconds of each other in the third period to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 4-3 thriller. She was also credited with an assist on UNH's other goal, which was scored by Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario). Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) also tallied multiple points with two assists.
Freshman goalie Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 19 saves. BU freshman netminder Mari Pietersen also recorded 19 saves.
BU's Andi Calderone finished with two goals and an assist. Catherine Foulem, Lacey Martin and Clara Yuhn also scored for the Terriers.
UNH falls to 6-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in Hockey East. BU is now 5-3-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the league.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH recorded a 14-8 shot advantage but ended the period down 2-0 through the first 20 minutes.
- UNH started the game on a power play due to a game protocol violation on BU but Foulem scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 1:03 to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
- At 11:49, BU struck again with a goal from Martin to give the Terriers an early 2-0 lead .
- New Hampshire's Blair had three saves in the first.
SECOND PERIOD
- UNH gets a goal back at 1:50 of second frame. The goal was scored on the power play by Truter at the right post coming off a slick backdoor pass from Verrier to cut the deficit to 2-1. Juodikis was credited with the secondary assist as she advanced the puck from the slot to the left side for Verrier.
- Blair made an important save at 4:11 when she stop a Terrier breakaway by Lilli Welcke.
- BU went on the power play at 3:53 and Calderone's goal at 5:11 extended the lead to two goals, 3-1.
- Calderone netted another power-play goal at 9:39 to put BU up 4-1 almost halfway through the second.
THIRD PERIOD
- At 2:17 of the third period, Blair made another big save on a BU breakaway to the keep the score 4-1.
- Verrier collected a rebound in the low slot and deposited the puck into the open net to lift UNH within 4-2 at 6:52. Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario), who kept the puck in the offensive zone at the high slot and snapped a shot on goal, was credited with the assist.
- Verrier scored again 91 seconds later at 8:23 with the assist coming from Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Juodikis. Hammer's pass from the left half-boards was redirected in front by Verrier. Juodikis initiated the sequence with a pass from the slot.
- In a giant change of momentum, the Wildcats transformed a 4-1gamee into a 4-3 nailbiter.
- A key moment in the game came at 11:08. After scoring back-to-back goals UNH had all the momentum and a streaking shot from Tamara Thierus (Saint-Jerome, Quebec) nearly tied the game as it went just wide and out of the reach of multiple UNH forwards on what was almost the game tying goal.
- BU found the back of the net with a goal from Yuhn at 17:20 when she skated down the left wing to the post and banked a shot off the back of Blair's leg into the cage.
- The 'Cats pulled Blair in favor of an extra skater with 2:29 remaining and the Terriers were whistled for tripping at 18:01 to give UNH a 6-on-4 advantage.
- New Hampshire did not record a shot the rest of the way, however.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- BU recorded a 24-22 shot advantage.
- UNH won in the faceoff circle with a 29-15 advantage.
- UNH was credited with 14 blocked shots while BU had seven blocks.
- BU was 2-for-4 on the power play with UNH going 1-for-5.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia) led all skaters with four blocked shots and Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) was credited with three.
- Juodikis equaled her best of two assists, which she established in October 2021 against Holy Cross.
- Juodikis has a team-high five multiple-point games this season and 16 in her career.
- Juodikis leads the team in both goals (seven) and points (13). She is tied for second with six assists.
- Verrier has scored two goals in a game twice in her career; the previous time was Sept. 24, 2022 vs. Union College.
- This was her first career three-point game; she had tallied two points four times.
- Verrier led all skaters with nine faceoff wins on a .643 winning percentage.
- Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) was next with eight faceoff wins and a .800 winning percentage.
- Hammer recorded a point both games of the home-and-home series vs. BU; she scored a goal Friday on the road.
- UNH has given up four shorthanded goals this season.
