BOSTON – Ridvan Tutic (Novi Pazar, Serbia), a freshman for the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team, has been named America East Rookie of the week for the first time.
In the lone game last week, Tutic scored five points and added a career-high 11 rebounds to lead UNH in their 67-51 win at UAlbany on Dec. 31. This was the opening game of conference play in the America East as the 'Cats secured the win on New Year's Eve.
Tutic shot 2-4 from the field and notched an assist in the winning effort, while also leading the team with four offensive rebounds in 24 minutes of game action.
This was Tutic's sixth consecutive start for the Wildcats, and his ninth of the season. In the last six starts, the 'Cats hold a 4-2 record and are 5-4 overall this year when Tutic starts on the floor.
Tutic's 11 rebounds are the most by a Wildcat since junior Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) notched 14 on Dec. 12 vs. St Joseph's (ME). His 11 boards are the most by a freshman since Nick Guadarrama recorded 16 vs. Hartford on Feb. 21, 2019.
Tutic enters the week ranked second on the team in rebounding (6.7 rebounds per game) and is tied for sixth overall in the America East. He is also tied for sixth overall in offensive rebounding (2.7 per game) in the conference. His rebounding mark ranks second in the America East among all freshmen.
New Hampshire (6-7, 1-0 AE) returns to action Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. in another America East matchup at Binghamton (4-10, 0-1 AE) in Vestal, N.Y. The Wildcats' next home game is Jan. 8 at 12 p.m. against Vermont (7-8, 1-0 AE) in Lundholm Gymnasium.
