AUSTIN, Texas –Chris Pinkham (Concord, N.H.), a grad student on the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team this past fall, signed a contract with Austin FC II on Tuesday. Pinkham joins ATXFC II on a one-year deal through the end of the 2023 season with additional Club options for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
"Chris is coming off a stellar collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire… and we're happy to have him join Austin FC II," Director of Player Personnel Sean Rubio stated in a team press release.
Pinkham played 65 matches in five seasons (2018-22) as a UNH midfielder/back with totals of three goals and 10 assists. This past season, he started 18 of 19 matches and recorded six points, all on assists, to rank second on the team and tied for No. 5 in the America East conference, in assists. Chris ranked fourth among UNH field players with 1,524 minutes played.
"Chris is one of the most industrious and hard-working players we have had at UNH," eighth-year UNH head coach Marc Hubbard said. "He represented his home state the right way every time he was on the field. There is no one more deserving of this opportunity and no doubt that when given time and some good luck on health, that Chris will establish himself. We all look forward to following his journey."
Pinkham's signing is almost one month after the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Dec. 21, when UNH's Moise Bombito was drafted third overall and fellow Wildcats Jassem Koleilat and Rory O'Driscoll were also selected.
New Hampshire went 15-4-1 (.775) overall in the 2022 season and was ranked No. 21 in the final United Soccer Coaches National Poll. The Wildcats were 6-1-0 in America East to earn a fourth consecutive regular-season championship and fifth in program history.
UNH then won its fourth America East tournament championship to advance to the NCAA tournament for the sixth consecutive year and seventh time overall. The Wildcats defeated Seton Hall, 2-1, in the first round at Wildcat Stadium and then tied 10th-seeded Florida International, 2-2, in the second round but lost the 12 round-shootout, 10-9.
The Wildcats posted 11 shutouts and outscored the opposition, 38-12. UNH's 0.590 team goals against average was ranked third in the nation and its .550 shutout percentage was sixth.
