AMESBURY, Mass. – Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario), a junior forward on the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team, was named the Hockey East co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Brooks recorded three goals and two assists for a total of five points in UNH's weekend split of a 5-3 win against 15th-ranked Boston College and 3-1 loss to Boston University. Her other stats included 30 faceoff wins (54 total faceoffs) , a +2 plus/minus rating, 15 shots and one block.
She recorded her first career hat trick and also tallied an assist to lift the Wildcats to victory against BC on Jan. 20. The three goals and four points are both career highs for Brooks; she scored two goals Jan. 23, 2021 vs. Merrimack College and had a best of two points 11 times.
Brooks' first goal tied the score, 1-1, with eight seconds remaining in the first period. She set up the goal that gave UNH its first lead of the game, 3-2, 27 seconds into the third period. It was UNH's first hat trick since Feb. 16, 2019, when Taylor Wenczkowski scored three goals vs. Boston University, and the previous time a Wildcat recorded 4+ points in a game was Oct. 22, 2017, when Meghara McManus tallied five points (one goal, four assists).
Brooks extended both her assist and point streaks to four games with an assist against Boston U. on Jan. 21; that goal gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead 3:39 into the game. She won 17 faceoffs and was in 31 of the game's 63 faceoffs; she also had a +1 rating.
