Lyons' Nordic Victory Headlines Third-Place Finish at Dartmouth Carnival

Michael, Sanderberg finish in Top-4 of women's slalom
HANOVER & LYME, N.H. – Sophomore Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) raced to victory in the women's 10K freestyle while freshman Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) and senior Fanny Sanderberg (Oslo, Norway) earned Top-4 finishes in women's slalom to highlight the UNH ski team's third-place finish at the Dartmouth Carnival, which concluded Saturday.
Vermont won the carnival with 951 points, followed by Dartmouth (797), which edged UNH (796) by one point. The rest of the Top-5 included Middlebury (579) and Colby (515).

At Oak Hill Touring Center, Lyons completed the 10K free in 31 minutes, 13.0 seconds for 50 points. Junior Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) posted a ninth-place time of 33:36.9 for 35 points, and freshman Lisa Nystedt (Stockholm, Sweden) tallied 25 points courtesy of her 21st-place result (34:51.7). The Wildcats finished in second place (110 points) behind Dartmouth (127) in the race.
At Dartmouth Skiway, Michael clocked in at 1 minute, 39.86 seconds to collect 47 points and finish runner-up to Vermont's Moa Clementson (1:38.15). Sanderberg took fourth place in 1:40.59 (41 points), and senior Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) registered a 12th-place time of 1:41.37 for 29 points. The women's alpine team scored 117 points to finish second to UVM (131).
In the men's 10K free, junior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) led the way for the 'Cats in a third-place time of 26:32.2 (44 points). Freshman Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) earned 26 points by placing 15th in 27:54.7, and sophomore Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) secured 20 points by finishing in 23rd (28:28.4).
In men's SL, senior Crowley Gentile (Greenland, N.H.) was the top-scoring Wildcat for the second straight day with a 14th-place finish (1:41.67, 28 points). Junior Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) finished 0.05 seconds behind Gentile for 15th place (27 points), and graduate student Bastian Meisen (Munich, Germany) notched 25 points by virtue of his 18th-place time of 1:42.20.
NEXT UP
•The alpine Wildcats are scheduled to compete in giant slalom at Stowe on Thursday, Feb. 17, in a makeup of the postponed UVM Carnival race from last weekend. The race will count for NCAA points only.
•Both Wildcat teams then compete in the Middlebury Carnival on Feb. 18-19 with Nordic races at Rikert Nordic Center (Ripton, Vt.) and alpine races at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.
