Hubbard’s .742 winning percentage is the best in program history.
"We are delighted to have Marc as our head coach for men's soccer for the long term," said Scarano. "Marc's vision and years of hard work have created a UNH men's soccer culture that has resonated from the seacoast throughout the Granite State. Marc is also a widely respected individual in our department, institution and community. He has built a nationally renowned program that is respected as an NCAA Championship contender annually."
Under Hubbard's leadership during his first seven seasons, the program has flourished in reaching new heights. Hubbard has an 87-25-16 record at UNH and the Wildcats have won 10 games or more in each season. His .742 winning percentage is the best by a head coach in program history. Hubbard also has brought the school its first three America East Tournament championships (2018, 2019 & 2020) and five straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021).
"My family and I are very excited to sign this long-term extension that allows us to continue to raise our family in this wonderful state and community," said Hubbard. "I would like to thank President Dean and Marty Scarano for their efforts and support. We have achieved so many goals since we arrived in 2015, but there is so much more to accomplish here together as we push towards a national championship. I am proud of what this program represents for our school, community and state, and look forward to raising our profile further by continuing our success both on and off the field in Durham."
The coaching staff, led by Hubbard, has been named the America East Staff of the Year four times (2017, 2019, 2020 & 2021), Region Staff of the Year three times (2017, 2019 & 2021), and Hubbard has earned ECAC Coach of the Year honors twice (2019 & 2021).
During Hubbard's time as head coach, the Wildcats have had nine All-America selections and four semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy that is awarded annually to the nation's top college soccer player. Also, the program's first three players to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft have been under Hubbard's tutelage.
With Hubbard at the helm, UNH has made Wildcat Stadium one of the toughest places to play in the country with an all-time record of 43-2-7 (.894) at the stadium, outscoring the opposition, 109-19. This past season, UNH set a Wildcat Stadium attendance record for a soccer game when 5,357 fans attended the contest versus Vermont on Oct. 16, 2021.
The Wildcats went 17-2-2 (7-0-1 America East) during a historic 2021 season that featured program records for wins (17) and winning percentage (.857). UNH also earned its highest national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 4 on Oct. 12, 2021.
The Wildcats advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, falling at No. 1 seed Oregon State, 1-0. UNH earned the No. 16 seed and received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and defeated North Carolina, 4-1, in the second round at Wildcat Stadium.
UNH led the nation with a .466 team goals against average. The Wildcats' .857 winning percentage was fifth in the country, while their 47 goals scored were ranked 10th.
Hubbard, who is a native of Durham, won the Division II national championship as head coach of Southern New Hampshire University in 2013 as he was named the National Coach of the Year. He graduated from Colgate University in 2003 with a degree in Political Science before obtaining his master's degree in Kinesiology: Sports Studies at UNH in 2006. Hubbard is a 1999 graduate of Oyster River High School as he was a member of two teams that won the New Hampshire Class I championship.
