Juodikis, Pinto Record Two Points Apiece in 3-2 OT Loss to Boston College

DURHAM, N.H. – Grad student Emily Pinto (Mulmur, Ontario) and sophomore Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) both recorded a goal and an assist, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was upended 3-2 in overtime by Boston College on Saturday at the Whittemore Center.
Pinto's goal lifted UNH within 2-1 at 11:03 of the third period and Juodikis scored an extra-attacker goal with 1:45 remaining to send the game into overtime. Graduate student captain Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 28 saves, including one in overtime.
BC's Abigail Levy made 12 of her 24 saves in the second period and did not face a shot in the extra session. Abby Newhook ended the game with a goal 44 seconds into OT. Gabby Roy and Kate Ham netted first-period goals for the Eagles.
UNH moves to 5-12-0 overall and 4-10-0 in Hockey East and BC is now 8-7-1, 7-5-0.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH had a dangerous scoring chance 2:45 into the game when junior Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) skated down the slot but snapped a close-range shot over the cage. The puck was sent back in front of the net and Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) was denied on a rising backhander by Levy.
- BC scored the first goal of the game at 9:25 on Gaby Roy's turnaround shot from the slot that trickled between Boutilier's legs. Assists went to Katie Pyne and Kelly Browne.
- Ham skated through the neutral zone and split a pair of defenders while entering the zone, then fired a shot from the right faceoff dot that sailed inside the far post to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead at 15:00.
- BC had an 11-10 shot advantage.
- UNH led in faceoff wins, 10-4.
SECOND PERIOD
- UNH had a 12-10 shot advantage in the scoreless period that had only 10 faceoffs.
- The Wildcats generated a dangerous scoring opportunity while on the power play at 11:40. The sequence began with Brooks' sweeping shot from the slot kick out by Levy's right leg pad. Pinto skated onto the rebound in the left circle and snapped a shot off the netting outside of the left post. Juodikis, circling from behind the net to the left post, also hit the side netting on her shot from the left doorstep.
THIRD PERIOD
- Pinto scored at 11:03 of the final frame to lift the 'Cats within 2-1. Juodikis carried the puck up through the neutral zone and beat her defender down the right boards while drawing in two other BC players. She saucered the puck to an open area in the slot, where Pinto fired the puck into the top right corner. Junior Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) was credited with the secondary assist.
- UNH pulled Boutlier with 2:07 on the clock and leveled the score, 2-2, 22 seconds later.
- Juodikis scored a second goal for the Wildcats at 18:15 with grad student captain Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) and Pinto recording the assists. Pinto passed the puck to the top of the slot for Martin, who shot a one-timer wide left of the net. The puck bounced off the end boards back in front and Juodikis and roofed it from the left doorstep for the extra-attacker goal.
OVERTIME
- Newhook led a 2-on-1 rush on the right side and snapped a shot from the circle into the upper-left corner to end the game 44 seconds into overtime. Hanna Bilka, with the pass from the defensive zone to Newhook at center ice, set up the tally.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- BC had a 31-26 shot advantage that included 2-0 in OT.
- UNH went 0-for-2 in power plays and was not whistled for a penalty.
- The Wildcats led in block shots with 12 and BC had six.
- The 'Cats also had a 28-15 edge in the faceoff circle.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Pinto scored a goal both games vs. BC to extend her point streak to four games – the longest by a Wildcat this season; she has two goals and three assists during the streak.
- She is UNH's leader in assists (10) and points (13).
- Juodikis now leads the team in goals with five; she is third in points with nine.
- Both Pinto and Juodikis recorded their second multiple-point game of the season.
- Martin, grad student Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) and junior captain Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) led all skaters with two blocks apiece.
- Grad student Gabby Jones (Westfield, Mass.) won a 13 of 20 faceoffs to tie the most faceoff wins by a Wildcat this season.
