
Berry Records Goal, Assist in 5-4 Overtime Loss at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior captain Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 5-4 in overtime by Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
Grad student Gabby Jones (Westfield, Mass.) also tallied two points with two assists. UNH's other goal scorers were juniors Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) and Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario), and senior Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario).
Graduate student Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 19 saves, including one in overtime.
Hayley Chang scored her second goal of the game and lifted Merrimack to victory with a goal 59 seconds into the extra session. Allison Reeb (one goal, one assist) and Sam Lessick (two assists) also finished with multiple points. Emma Gorski was credited with 24 saves and did not face a shot in overtime.
UNH moves to 5-10-0 overall and 4-8-0 in Hockey East and Merrimack is now 5-8-1, 4-7-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH struck first at 14:38 when Jones poked the puck forward to Berry, who sniped a wrister from the slot into the upper-left corner.
- The Warriors tied the score, 1-1, on Hannah Corneliusen's goal at 16:42.
SECOND PERIOD
- Merrimack took a 2-1 lead on Reeb's goal at 2:50 and extended the advantage to 3-1 on a goal by Payten Evans at 9:46.
- The Wildcats trimmed the margin to 3-2 at 16:30. Jones' initial shot from the slot was stopped by Gorski, but Berry pushed the rebound across the crease from the left doorstep and Christian deposited the puck into the open net.
THIRD PERIOD
- Chang scored a power-play goal at 5:40 to reestablish a two-goal lead, 4-2.
- UNH once again pulled within a goal, 4-3, at 13:38 when Kelly scored at the right doorstep. Sophomore Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) initiated the scoring sequence by circling behind the net and feeding a pass to grad student Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) at the left point. Rickwood's slapshot ricocheted off junior Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) in front of the net across the low slot to Kelly.
- The 'Cats pulled Boutilier in favor of an extra skater at 18:29. Merrimack was whistled for a slashing penalty four seconds later, at which point UNH called time out to set up for a two-skater advantage.
- Brooks netted the game-tying goal with 40 seconds on the clock when she snapped a low shot from between the faceoff dots inside the right post. Grad student Emily Pinto (Mulmur, Ontario), with the centering pass from the left circle, and captain Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) were credited with the assists.
- Neither team recorded a shot the remainder of regulation.
OVERTIME
- On a broken play, Lessick gained possession alone in the slot and Boutilier, charging from the crease, made the save. A collision with a UNH skater prevented Boutilier from retreating to defend the cage. Chang corralled the rebound in the slot and fired a shot into the net to end the game at 59 seconds.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire finished with a 28-24 shot advantage but the Warriors recorded the only two shots in overtime.
- UNH went 1-for-4 on the power play while MC was 1 of 3.
- The Wildcats won 26 of 47 faceoffs and blocked 12 shot attempts in comparison to MC's 11.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Berry matched her career high of two points.
- Jones' two assists marked her first multiple-assist and multiple-point game of the season.
- She finished the two-game series against her former team with three assists to extend her point streak to three games.
- Jones also led New Hampshire in the faceoff circle with 11 wins.
- Christian, who entered the weekend with zero goals this season, scored a goal both games this weekend vs. Merrimack.
- Brooks also tallied a goal both games against the Warriors this weekend. She won 8 of 11 faceoffs Saturday for a .727 winning percentage in the circle.
- Rickwood and junior captain Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) tied for the team lead with three blocks apiece.
- UNH is 1-1-0 in OT games this season.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 15-6-2 lifetime record against Merrimack College that includes 7-4-1 on the road.
- This was the sixth overtime game in the series and both teams now have a pair of wins. The Warriors have won each of the past two OT games.
