Juodikis Scores in 3-1 Loss at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – Freshman Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 3-1 by UConn at Freitas Ice Forum on Monday night.
Junior Nicky Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) made 13 of her 21 saves in the first period. Sophomore Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) and freshman Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) were credited with the assists on Juodikis's goal.
UConn was led offensively by Summer-Rae Dobson, Natalie Snodgrass and Taylor Wabick with two points apiece. Both Dobson and Snodgrass tallied a goal and an assist while Wabick finished with two assists.
Samantha Carpentier-Yelle stopped 15 shots.
UNH is now 8-13-2 overall and 6-9-1 in Hockey East. UConn moves to 18-5-2, 12-4-2.

FIRST PERIOD
- UConn scored the only two goals of the opening period with a 15-4 shot advantage.
- Harnett made five saves during the Huskies' first power play at 9:23 to keep the game scoreless.
- Snodgrass gave UConn a 1-0 lead at 12:42 and then Taylor Wabick netted a power-play goal at 16:34 to extend the advantage to two goals.
SECOND PERIOD
- UNH recorded a 6-4 shot advantage and netted the lone goal of the second stanza.
- Juodikis lifted the Wildcats within 2-1 at 10:46. Kelly's pass from the left circle found Juodikis in the slot, where she snapped a wrist inside the right post. Alvarez made the outlet pass to Kelly to set up the sequence.
- With 5:45 on the clock, Juodikis led a rush down the left wing and fed a centering pass to sophomore Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario), who one-touched the puck back to the left circle. Kelly skated onto the puck and blasted a shot wide left of the cage. The puck caromed off the end boards to the right post, but Juodikis could not jam the puck on net.
- The Wildcats went on their only power play of the game at 17:03, but did not record a shot before being whistled for too many skaters on the ice at 18:45.
THIRD PERIOD
- New Hampshire had the slightest of edges, 6-5, in shots but UConn scored once more to secure the win.
- The Huskies opened the third period with 45 seconds remaining on a power play but UNH's penalty kill did not surrender a shot.
- Dobson netted UConn's second power-play goal of the game to extend the advantage to 3-1 at 11:43. Harnett had stopped the initial shot by Morgan Wabick and the chance off the rebound by Viki Harkness before Dobson scored.
- UNH pulled Harnett in favor of an extra skater with 2:20 remaining, and the Wildcats did not record a shot before calling time out with 66 seconds on the clock.
- UConn did not allow a shot the rest of the way to preserve the two-goal margin.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Despite being outshot in two of the three periods, UConn recorded a 24-16 shot advantage.
- The Huskies went 2-for-4 on the power play and their penalty kill was 1-for-1.
- UConn had a 26-21 edge in the faceoff circle and blocked 13 shot attempts in comparison to UNH's five.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Juodikis scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. She is tied for the team lead at 17 points.
- Kelly ranks fourth in points with 11.
- Juodikis and Kelly recorded a point for the second consecutive game. Both have three points in those two games with Juodikis scoring two goals and Kelly tallying a pair of assists.
- Alvarez recorded her second career assist and third point.
- Junior Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) recorded a team-high two blocks.
- Juodikis' five shots accounted for nearly one-third of UNH's 16 total.
- Harnett has made three consecutive starts in goal.

- UNH has a 49-20-5 overall record vs. UConn, but the Huskies have won four straight in the series.
