BOSTON - Freshman Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) led the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed 13th out of 22 teams at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on the 5K course at Franklin Park on Friday versus national competition.
"We went in with high expectations and we still feel this team can achieve a lot," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "We are also in a situation where we have to work hard to get to that point, we are looking forward to continuing with the process. We were competitive in some ways and I was very happy with the way the true freshmen ran up front. When the team led by two freshman, that says a lot about those two athletes and how well they are running."
The meet featured some of the top competition in the country including several nationally ranked teams. No. 13 North Carolina won the meet with 63 points as Tar Heel Brynn Brown won the individual championship with a time of 16:53.
Walker placed 49th out of 195 runners with a time of 18:11 to lead UNH.
