9/19/2021 4:36:00 PM | Field Hockey
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Molly McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) recorded a goal and an assist for the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, but third-ranked Boston College rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
McAteer, senior Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Lily Rothwell (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored the UNH goals, and junior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) was credited with eight saves, including one in overtime.
Sarah Johnson scored the game-winning goal 6:02 into overtime to lift BC to victory. She also tallied a pair of assists. Margo Carlin, Lois Lekawael and Fusine Govaert also scored for the Eagles, and goalie Jonna Kennedy made two saves.
UNH moves to 2-5 overall and BC is now 7-1.
"Very proud of what we accomplished today," UNH head coach Robin Balducci surmised. "BC is a great team. They've got great depth, great individual skill. So for us to really settle in after they were pressing us, pressing us, that was important. Then for us to take a little bit of a run, be able to push up in the first half and finish with some good stats and good pressure. Those are all really important as we get ready to take on Cal and UC Davis next weekend."

COACH'S QUIPS
Head coach Robin Balducci, on non-conference schedule
"We've been focused on all of our pre-conference games and have clearly taken on a strong schedule for one purpose and one purpose only. And that is, where we are gonna be as we head into conference and today was just that one more step, one more benchmark as to what we can do when we stay together and stay focused with our discipline in our tactical game."
On the team's quick goal after BC tied the score 2-2
"I'm just excited about them being able to step up on the field, on their own. They stick to the game plan. It's a sign of our leadership. We have six great seniors who are leading the group on game day in the field of play. We may be young in some spots but the leadership makes up for that."
On scoring two goals on penalty corners
"We've been executing on corners. That's clearly been a strength of ours. It's something we talked about right from the beginning of the season, that corners are a strength of ours and we've got to understand that. And that's important to our game plan."
On the growth of the younger players
"I think our younger forwards really running. We've got some speed. We've got a real mix in our strikers. I'm pleased with the younger players. They've stepped up to match up to some very good players."
