KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Graduate student Bridger Hansen (Cottonwood Heights, Utah) of the No. 11 nationally-ranked University of New Hampshire men's soccer program has been named a 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy Award Semifinalist presented by World Wide Technology as announced by United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club. He is one of 15 semifinalists.
The Hermann Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's top male and female college soccer players. This is the second straight season and the second time in program history the Wildcats have had a player named a semifinalist for the prestigious award as Josh Bauer was a semifinalist in the 2019 season.
"Bridger continues to improve as a player and leader in our program," said UNH head coach Marc Hubbard. "We are very proud to have a semifinalist for the second consecutive year and shows that others on a national scale are paying attention to our trajectory. Bridger has accomplished this in a short amount of time here and we look forward to seeing what our team can achieve together this Fall." Bridger Hansen (Photo by China Wong)
Hansen, who was previously an All-America at Westminster College in 2019, was named the America East Defender of the Year in his first season at UNH. He also earned first team All-Conference accolades. He anchored a defense that only allowed eight goals all season as the team's 0.778 goals against average is 29th in the nation. He also led the team to being tied for first in the league in least goals allowed.
Hansen posted his first point as a Wildcat with an assist on the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win over Vermont on April 17 in the America East Championship game.
The Wildcats concluded the season with an 8-1-1 (.850) overall record, posting the best winning percentage in program history. UNH captured its third straight America East Tournament championship, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Wildcats outscored their opposition this season by a 22-8 margin and earned their highest national ranking in the United Soccer Coach Poll in program history at No. 10.
