Nate Hobbs competed in his second NCAA Prelims

Hobbs places 36th and Wilkes 41st.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) and senior James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed on Day 1 of the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Preliminary Round at the University of North Florida on Wednesday. Hobbs placed 36th in the long jump and Wilkes was 41st in the 800 meters.
Hobbs, who made his second career NCAA Prelims appearance, placed 36th in the long jump out of 48 athletes with a distance of 23' 4" on his third jump. His first attempt was a jump of 22' 2.25", while his second attempt was 23' 0.75".
LONG JUMP RESULTS
Hobbs concludes his outstanding junior season as he set the school record in the long jump with a distance of 24' 10.50" on April 24 at the Pre-Conference Meet at UNH. He also won a silver medal at the America East Championships on May 1 with a jump of 24' 7.25".
Wilkes placed 41st out of 48 athletes with a time of 1:52.21 in the 800 meters. He was seventh in his heat. This was his first appearance in the NCAA Prelims.
800M RESULTS
Wilkes concludes his senior season as he posted a career-best time of 1:49.63 to place fourth in the 800m at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on May 15 to qualify for the NCAA Prelims. Wilkes also won a bronze medal in the 1,500m at the America East Championships on May 2 with a time of 3:50.63.
Graduate student Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly (Chester, N.H.) will compete in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday, May 28 at 6:10 p.m. The top 12 will advance to the NCAA Championship from June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Sevilla-Connelly qualified for the Prelims with a career-best time of 8:49.85 in the 3,000m steeplechase to win gold at the America East Championships on May 1. This will be the first time that he will compete at the NCAA Prelims.
