Hobbs, Sevilla-Connelly & Wilkes Set to Compete in NCAA Prelims

Wildcats will travel to Jacksonville on May 26-29.
INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.), graduate student Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly (Chester, N.H.) and senior James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team will compete at the 2021 NCAA Preliminary Round at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Hobbs will compete in the long jump on Wednesday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m. Sevilla-Connelly qualified in the 3000m steeplechase as the semifinals are on Friday, May 28 at 6:10 p.m. Wilkes will compete in the 800m. The first round is on Wednesday at 7:50 p.m., while the quarterfinals are on Friday at 7:35 p.m. The three Wildcats will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championship which will take place from June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Hobbs set the school record in the long jump with a distance of 24'10.50" on April 24 at the Pre-Conference Meet at UNH. He won a silver medal at the America East Championships on May 1 with a jump of 24'7.25". Hobbs placed fifth at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on May 15 with a distance of 23'6.25". Hobbs is seeded No. 23 out of 48 athletes. This will be the second time that Hobbs has competed in the NCAA Prelims as he placed 31st at the 2019 event with a distance of 23' 4.75".
Sevilla-Connelly qualified with a career-best time of 8:49.85 in the 3,000m steeplechase to win gold at the America East Championships on May 1. He also won the steeplechase this season at the Wildcat Invitational on April 3 with a time of 9:09.05 and at UMass Lowell on April 17 with a time of 8:52.72. Sevilla-Connelly is seeded No. 27 out of 48 athletes. This will be the first time that he will compete at the NCAAs.
Wilkes posted a career-best time of 1:49.63 to place fourth in the 800m at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on May 15. He placed first in the 800m three times this season. Wilkes also won a bronze medal in the 1,500m at the America East Championships on May 2 with a time of 3:50.63. He took silver in the 4x800m relay at the America East Championships. Wilkes is the No. 46 seed out of 48 athletes. This will be his first NCAAs.
