DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team lost a one point decision to Holy Cross, 50-49 on Wednesday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium in non-conference play.
The Wildcats dropped to 3-5 overall with the loss, while the Crusaders improve to 5-4 overall.
Senior forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the Wildcats' offense with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five rebounds, with all her points coming in the second half for the Wildcats. Gogolin's three-point play with 1:44 to go gave the 'Cats a one-point lead that they couldn't hold onto.
"I challenged our young ladies, especially after our last two losses with effort, fight, playing with a chip on our shoulder. Honestly, playing the Wildcat Way as we keep trying to build and getting back to our identity," said UNH head coach Kelsey Hogan. "I am really proud of their response, of course the game didn't go in our favor and that hurts when we stuck to our defensive game plan."
Graduate guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) chipped in with 10 points, while freshman guard Kenzie Matulonis (Raynam, Mass,) led UNH with three three-point field goals for nine points and notched a game-high four steals.
The Wildcats' trailed at halftime 22-19.
The Crusaders tallied a 30-18-point advantage in points in the paint against UNH in the win. UNH shot a team-best 43% (6-14) from the floor in the fourth stanza.
LaBarbera totaled a team-high 12 points in the matchup and scored the game-winner at the buzzer as time expired. Sophomore Janelle Allen added 11 points in the victory for the Crusaders.
UNH returns to action again on Saturday, December 11 at Boston College. Game time from Conte Forum is 4pm on ACC Network.
