Women’s Cross Country Places Second at America East Championships

Four Wildcats earn second team All-League honors.

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team placed second at the 2021 America East Cross Country Championships held on the campus of UNH on the 5K course at College Woods with 61 points.
Freshman Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) led the Wildcats with an eighth-place finish to earn second team All-Conference accolades with a time of 17:06.52.
"Our team did really well, our whole team pulled a really big PR most of our team, we all ran super fast and I am really proud of everybody," said Walker. "I felt really good, it was a lot of fun, the course was nice, it was a fast course."
Freshman Addison Cox (Northwood, N.H.), graduate student Annemarie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) and senior Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) also earned second team All-Conference honors. Cox placed 11th (17:47.57), Martell was 12th (17:15.16) and Nolan was 14th (17:25.87).
"We were very happy with how we ran today, I thought the team competed very well," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "It's exciting to see how much we have improved over the course of this season and I am very proud of their efforts today. I am happy with the way the whole meet went."
This is the fourth straight time that Martell has made second team All-Conference. Her three other previous America East Championships appearances were with Vermont.
Senior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) posted a 16th-place finish (17:27.30) to round out the scoring for the Wildcats giving UNH 61 total points. Senior Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) tallied an 18th-place finish with a time of 17:37.60 and freshman Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) was 22nd (17:52.04).
The meet was won overall by Binghamton's Emily Mackay finishing in 16:24.67. UMass Lowell took the team championship with a score of 32.
