New Hampshire native Luke Rosinski (Derry, N.H.) reflected on his time as a student-athlete on the University of New Hampshire's men's basketball team and the impact it made in his life. During his time at UNH, Rosinski made many memories and built relationships that will last a lifetime. MAKING UNH HOME Luke Rosinski with his family and coach Herrion on Senior Day
Having the opportunity to be a student-athlete at UNH meant the world to Rosinski. As a New Hampshire resident, he took great pride in the Granite State which carried over into his basketball career. He was proud to be a Wildcat and when he joined the team his freshman year he knew he was part of more than just a team, but a family too.
"Waking up everyday knowing I was a part of something bigger than myself gave me so much motivation. Being a member of the UNH men's basketball team was very special to me. Being born and raised in New Hampshire, UNH was always a school I was interested in. UNH was able to give me the best opportunity to continue playing the game I love while earning a degree, it was a dream come true."
Ever since Rosinski became part of the UNH athletic program he has felt a sense of community.
"UNH's athletic program was a great experience to be a part of because everyone within the program treated everyone like family. The UNH athletic program and community always showed great character and was always there whenever you needed them."
Although his time at UNH went by in what seemed like a blink of an eye, he wouldn't trade his past four years at UNH for anything.
"UNH will always hold a special place in my heart and be considered home. I am forever grateful for UNH and everyone who has made an impact in my life. This school and program turned a young New Hampshire kid into a grown man and instilled the qualities of what it takes to overcome anything. UNH has really made my time special."
BALANCING LIFE AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE
As a student-athlete Rosinski's favorite place on campus at UNH was Lundholm Gymnasium. This is where he was able to unwind and play the game he loves, whether in practice or putting in extra hours on his own.
In addition to working hard in the gym, Rosinski understood the importance of balancing a student-athlete schedule which he accomplished as he was a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll.
"I loved being a student-athlete and even though at some times it was hard to balance, it made me who I am. With proper prioritizing and maintaining my own focus it was something I was able to achieve. Along with my coaches and all the great people working in the academic center, they always kept their doors open and gave support whenever it was needed."
With being a student-athlete comes great responsibility as well as many life lessons.
"You learn things about yourself and grow as a person more than you ever thought you could. You push yourself and test your limits and it shapes you to be who you are." Luke Rosinski won the team's Gerry Friel Award as a senior
The lessons Rosinski learned during his time as a student-athlete are ones that he will carry with him through life. The biggest lesson he learned at UNH was how to carry himself with class while keeping a positive attitude. "Positive energy is contagious," said Rosinski.
After reflecting on his four years as a Wildcat, Rosinski began to think of how different things are for him now compared to his freshman year.
"If there were any advice I was to give to my freshman year self, it would be to give everything you have every single day and do it with passion. Know that you can overcome anything if you put your mind to it. Most of all, when you look back you will know in your heart you gave it all you had."
WHAT'S NEXT
Leaving behind something so special won't be easy for this Wildcat.
"The thing I am going to miss the most is being a member of the UNH men's basketball team and the daily interactions I have with my teammates and coaches."
Rosinski graduated from UNH with a Bachelor's Degree in Sport Studies and with a double minor in Business Administration and Communication. Rosinski wants to take all of the things he has learned at UNH with him and continue his education.
"I want obtain a Master's Degree in School Counseling. I am someone that has a great outlook on life and I see it as something I would love to do in the future. I also have big dreams of becoming a college basketball coach. I have a great passion and love for the game of basketball and feel through my time at UNH I have been inspired to pursue this dream."
