CALGARY, Alberta – University of New Hampshire redshirt junior goalie Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) has been selected to participate in Hockey Canada's National Women's Development Team Summer Camp. The camp will be held virtually as Boutilier is one of 50 players to be invited.
"Ava has worked incredibly hard to be the best goalie, teammate and leader she can be," said UNH head coach Hilary Witt. "She has earned this great honor. I am so happy she has the opportunity to attend camp and continue to work to achieve her dreams."
Fifty players with eight goaltenders, 16 defense and 26 forwards, will be attending the camp which will feature weekly virtual meetings until athletes return to school in the fall.
The online sessions will take place up to twice weekly, with critical information being communicated to athletes to allow them to continue to evolve as high-performance athletes in this new environment, and will utilize the strengths and experience of Canada's National Women's Program leadership to help connect one-on-one, athlete-to-athlete.
Boutilier backstopped the Wildcats to their best record (18-15-4) since 2009-10 and their first Hockey East semifinals appearance since that same season. She started 26 games with a record of 13-10-2. Boutilier ranked sixth in the nation in save percentage (.940) and shutouts (6), while she was ninth in goals against average (1.80).
Boutilier was named the National Goaltender of the Month for February in which she went 4-2-1 with two shutouts, including UNH's first playoff shutout since 2008. She was also named a Hockey East Third Team All-Star.
For her career, Boutilier has played in 67 games with .932 save percentage and a 2.01 goals against average.
Boutilier was recently inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma. She will also serve as the Co-President of the UNH Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
