DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team skated past Providence College (3-7-1, 1-3-1 HEA) on Friday evening (Nov. 7) at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex, posting a 4-2 performance against the Friars.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead in the opening period, when senior forward Kelly Harty (Billerica, Mass.) put away a Josie Linn (Excelsior, Minn.) rebound in front of the Providence net for the captain's fifth score of the season. Through the first 20 minutes of play, the Friars outpaced UNH on the shot chart 12-3, headlined by a four-shot frame from Audrey Knapp. Junior netminder Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) stood tall, denying all 12 shots faced.
UNH doubled their advantage midway through the second period, when Aurora Kahlert (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) found Harty at the face-off dot, who rifled a shot past Providence's Hope Walinski to make it a 2-0 game on the 5-on-3 advantage. The Friars got one back late in the second period, when Bella Paolucci fired from the blue line, beating Blair to make it a 2-1 game. With just 50 seconds to play, Kahlert ripped a shot from the face-off circle, tipping off freshman Kristen Hartman (Newmarket, Ontario) for her team-leading third power-play goal of the season to regain the Wildcats' two-goal lead.
New Hampshire took a 4-1 lead 6:03 into the third period, when Nina Rossi (Pittsgrove, N.J.) forced a turnover in the defensive end, skating through the neutral zone and connecting with Danika Botterill (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) for a one-timer. The Friars got one back late in the period on a Jessie Pellerin cleanup, but the Wildcats held on, winning 4-2.
Six different players earned a point in the win, paced by a three-assist showing from Rossi and a pair of goals from Harty. Defensively, five players logged a plus-one rating, while Blair stopped 22-of-24 shots faced, posting a .917 save percentage. Both Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.) and Kahlert paced the team in blocked shots, earning two apiece.
