Women's Hockey Shut Out by Vermont, 4-0

The Wildcats fall to 7-6-1 on the season
BURLINGTON, Vt. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to the University of Vermont (5-7-2, 2-3-1 HEA) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 15) at the Gutterson Fieldhouse, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Catamounts.
Vermont opened the offense early in the first period, when Stella Retrum forced a turnover in the New Hampshire zone before finding Kaylee Lewis for a one-time try, giving the Catamounts the 1-0 edge. Neither offense struck again in the first period, keeping Vermont's 1-0 lead intact through 20 minutes. Additionally, Vermont outshot UNH 9-8, with three players logging a pair of shots for the Catamounts while the Wildcats saw shot attempts from seven different players.
Vermont doubled their advantage 1:58 into the middle frame, when Julia Mesplede pounced on a rebound in front, firing home on the five-on-three power-play to make it a 2-0 game. Through 40 minutes of play, the Wildcats took the lead on the shot chart, outshooting Vermont 19-17, including an 11-8 edge for New Hampshire in the middle frame. For the Wildcats, Nina Rossi (Pittsgrove, N.J.) has paced the offensive output with four tries on net while Addison Spitz (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Danika Botterill (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) trail with three apiece.
The Catamounts extended their lead early in the third period, when Morgann Skoda cleaned up her own rebound in the crease, putting the puck in the net to bring the score up to 3-0. Vermont struck again with 1:43 to play, when Stella Retrum buried the puck into the empty net from the blue line, bringing about the final 4-0 score.
13 different Wildcats logged a shot on net in the loss, paced by a six-shot showing from Botterill and four tries from Rossi. Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) turned down 25-of-28 shots faced, earning a .893 save percentage.
