
Men’s Hockey Announces 2019-20 Team Awards

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team has announced its team awards for the 2019-2020 season. Eight Wildcats received awards to recognize their efforts this past season.

Roger A. LeClerc Most Valuable Player Award: Max Gildon
Guy Smith Best Offensive Player Award: Angus Crookshank
Rod Langway Best Defenseman Award: Anthony Wyse
Warren R. Brown Best Defensive Forward Award: Liam Blackburn
Charles E. Holt Coaches Award: Joe Lazzaro
Robert A. Kullen Unsung Player Award: Eric MacAdams
Most Improved Player Award: Kohei Sato
Whoop Snively Citizenship Award: Benton Maass
Nate Hardy Ironman Award: Kohei Sato
Frank "The Fan" Halbert Fan Favorite Award: Angus Crookshank
Sid Knight Award: Joe Lazzaro
ROGER A. LECLERC MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD

Leading the team with 22 assists and 29 points, junior defenseman Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) was awarded the Roger A. LeClerc Most Valuable Player Award. This season, Gildon was named a Third Team Hockey East All-Star.
This trophy is presented annually to the team's Most Valuable Player and sportsman as voted by his teammates.
GUY SMITH BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER AWARD

Skating in 34 games and notching 22 points, sophomore forward Angus Crookshank (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was awarded the Guy Smith Award. This award is given to the best offensive player. Crookshank led the team with 16 goals, while he also posted six assists.
ROD LANGWAY BEST DEFENSEMAN AWARD

Senior defenseman and captain Anthony Wyse (Newton, Mass.) was awarded the Rod Langway Best Defenseman Award for the third year in a row. Wyse skated in 33 games and posted seven points on one goal and six assists throughout the season.
WARREN R. BROWN BEST DEFENSIVE FORWARD AWARD

Senior forward Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) was named this season's best defensive forward with the Warren R. Brown Memorial Trophy. Blackburn skated in all 34 games notching 18 points on five goals and 13 assists.
CHARLES E. HOLT COACHES AWARD

Senior goaltender Joe Lazzaro (Hampstead, N.H.) earned the Charles E. Holt Coaches Award, which acknowledges the player who makes large contributions to the team both on and off the ice as voted on by the coaching staff.
ROBERT A. KULLEN UNSUNG PLAYER AWARD

Junior forward Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) earned this season's Robert A. Kullen Unsung Player Award. MacAdams skated in 33 games, posting 18 points with seven goals and 11 assists.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD

Junior forward Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) won the Most Improved Player Award. Sato skated in 32 games this season posting a career-season with seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points.
WHOOP SNIVELY CITIZENSHIP AWARD

The Whoop Snively Citizenship Award was granted to junior defenseman Benton Maass (Elk River, Minn.) for his citizenship and service to the university community. Maass is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and leads by example in the community.
NATE HARDY IRONMAN AWARD

Sato earned the Nate Hardy Ironman Award by being the student-athlete who excelled in the weight room through a 15-event competition during dry-land training in the fall. The award was named in honor of Nate Hardy, a Navy SEAL who was tragically killed in action in Iraq in early February of 2008.
FRANK "THE FAN" HALBERT FAN FAVORITE AWARD

Crookshank was awarded the Frank "The Fan" Halbert Fan Favorite Award for being the team's most exciting contender as voted on by the fans. Crookshank electrified the crowd by scoring 16 goals which included three game winners.
SID KNIGHT AWARD

In addition to the Charles E. Holt Coaches Award, Lazzaro also earned the Sid Knight Award for having the highest grade point average on the team. This is Lazzaro's fourth year in a row winning the Sid Knight Award. Lazzaro is an electrical engineering major, posting an impressive 3.94 cumulative GPA.
