KJ McClurg Signs NLI to Join Wildcat Family

DURHAM, N.H. – KJ McClurg (Morgantown, W.Va.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team beginning with the upcoming the 2020-21 season. The announcement was made Thursday by UNH's 15th-year head coach Bill Herrion.

"We are very excited to have KJ join our basketball program here at UNH," said Herrion, who became the program's all-time wins leader this past season. "We were looking to bring in a guard in this year's recruiting class who has some size and versatility to his game. He can play a couple of different positions for us on the perimeter.
"KJ comes from a very successful high school program," Herrion continued. "He's very well coached and knows how to win."

McClurg is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of University High School, where he played for coach Joe Schmidle and scored 1,294 career points. McClurg's combined junior and senior season stats included averages of 21.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals per game, as well as a .554 field goal percentage that included 40.7% (114 of 280) from 3-point range.
His accolades include All-State First Team as a senior and All-State Second Team as a junior, as well as All-OVAC First Team and TRAC Conference First Team. He was also selected for the WVADA North/South Basketball All-Star Classic. Academically, McClurg is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (U.S. math honor society).
This past season, McClurg recorded a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, as well as five assists, in a double-overtime win against Top 25-ranked Morgan Park (Ill.) at the Beach Ball Classic.
As a junior, McClurg helped lead University to the first state championship in school history. He averaged 20.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in three tournament games, and that included 20 points and eight rebounds – both game highs – in the title game. His regular-season highlights included a career-high 43 point effort.
McClurg also played AAU ball for WV Big Shots Elite under coach Chad Bishop.
New Hampshire finished the 2019-20 season with a 15-15 overall record and tied for fourth in the America East standings with an 8-8 conference mark. The Wildcats ranked No. 2 in the nation in defensive rebounding and No. 5 in total rebounding.
