Guadarrama Nets 17 in 63-54 Loss to UMass Lowell

DURHAM, N.H. – Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) scored 17 points but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 63-54 in Tuesday night's regular-season finale by UMass Lowell at Lundholm Gym.
UNH, which entered the game on a four-game winning streak, is now 15-14 overall and 8-8 in America East. UMass Lowell completed the season series sweep of the Wildcats to improve to 13-18, 7-9.
UNH and UMBC finished in a fourth-place tie in the conference standings. UMBC wins the tiebreaker and, as the No. 4 seed, will play host to the fifth-seeded Wildcats in the March 7 quarterfinals of the Hercules Tires America East Championships. Game time is 1 p.m. at the UMBC Event Center.
Guadarrama finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, an assist and one steal. Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
UML was led by Christian Lutete (23 points, nine rebounds) and Obadiah Noel (19 points, six rebounds).
FIRST HALF
•UMass Lowell quickly took a 5-0 lead in the first minute of the game and never relinquished that advantage.
•The River Hawks pushed the margin to 12-1 at 16:17 before UNH made its first field goal on a Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) 3-pointer at 15:51
•Trailing 17-6 at 13:11, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run to trim the deficit to two points, 17-15, at 8:04. Sutherlin began and ended the spurt with a layup.
•UMass Lowell inched ahead 24-17 at 4:45.
•The 'Cats closed back within two points, 26-24, on a 3-pointer by Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) with 52 seconds on the clock.
•Noel answered with a 3-ball at the other end of the court to give UML a 29-24 advantage heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF
•The River Hawks slowly pulled away for a 41-28 lead at 13:56.
•UNH was unable to get closer than nine points until a basket by Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) trimmed the deficit to 60-53 with 40 seconds remaining.
•Noel hit one free throw with 31 seconds to play, then a UNH turnover led to a UML fastbreak layup and 63-53 lead with 25 seconds on the clock.

•Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) matched his career high of five assists.
•New Hampshire is 10-3 at home.
•UNH shot 5-for-23 from 3-point range to tie for the lowest number of 3's made in a game this season.
