New Hampshire has a 15-14 overall record that includes 10-3 at home, 5-11 on the road and 8-8 in America East; that includes 3-5 in conference road games.
UNH's 15 wins triples last year's season total (five).
The Wildcats won four of their last five regular season games. UNH's season-best four-game winning streak ended with a 63-54 home loss to UMass Lowell in the regular-season finale this past Tuesday.
UNH went 2-0 last week with a 77-70 road win at Maine and 89-70 home win against Binghamton.
New Hampshire has a 12-36 record in conference tournament play dating back to the 1980 ECAC North Athletic Conference tourney. UNH has never advanced to the championship game in 10 semifinal appearances.
In their most recent Hercules Tires America East Championships appearance, the sixth-seeded Wildcats were ousted in the 2018 quarterfinals by No. 3 Hartford, 71-60.
This is just the third time UNH is the No. 5 tourney seed, and the Wildcats have a 1-2 record from that position.
UNH has a 20-16 lifetime record against UMBC. The Wildcats ended UMBC's four-game win streak in the series with a 65-60 win at Lundholm this past January, then the Retrievers successfully defended their home court in mid-February.
New Hampshire has a 1-1 postseason record against UMBC. UNH prevailed 74-65 at home in a 2017 quarterfinal (as the No. 4 seed vs. the fifth-seeded Retrievers). UMBC won 78-73 in a 2005 first round game at Binghamton University (as the No. 9 seed against eighth-seeded UNH).
America East announced the annual award winners Friday and three Wildcats received a total of four awards. Sophomore forward Nick Guadarrama and junior guard Sean Sutherlin were both voted to the All-Conference Third Team. Graduate student and forward Chris Lester was named to both the All-Defensive Team and All-Academic Team.
UNH head coach Bill Herrion became the program's all-time wins leader Feb. 26, when he guided the Wildcats to a 77-70 victory at Maine. It marked his 186th win in 15 seasons at New Hampshire. He enters Saturday's game with 187 victories at UNH.
Herrion was named the America East Coach of the Year by Hoops HD on Monday.
