DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) tied the game at 1-1 in the third period and sophomore Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) netted the game-winning goal as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated Vermont, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center. The Wildcats now improve to 15-11-2 (9-8-1 HEA) on the season, while the Catamounts fall to 3-20-4 (0-15-2 HEA).
The Wildcats sweep the two-game series versus the Catamounts, as UNH won 6-3 on Friday. The last time UNH swept a Hockey East weekend series was against No. 5 UMass Lowell on October 6-7, 2017.
UNH is currently tied for fifth place in the Hockey East standings with Boston University with 19 points. The top eight teams qualify for the Hockey East Tournament.

The Wildcats will take on Boston University in a home-and-home series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15 at 7 p.m. Friday's game is "Blue Out BU" presented by Kennebunk Savings Bank at the Whittemore Center on NESNplus as hot dogs are only $1. At 11:34 of the first period, Vermont went on a two-man-advantage power play for 1:30. The Wildcats took a defensive stand, only allowing UVM one shot, keeping the score tied at 0-0.
During the first period, UNH outshot UVM 14-8.
UVM was the first to get on the scoreboard at 16:03 of the second period when Corey Moriarty capitalized on a short-handed opportunity, with a pass across the crease from Derek Lodermeier, as Moriarty ripped a low shot past the stick-side of junior goaltender Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.).
UNH outshot UVM 8-6 during the second period.
The Wildcats tied the game 1-1 just 30 seconds into the third period during a five-minute man-advantage, when junior Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) sent a one-timer slap shot soaring past Stefanos Lekkas' glove side after a pass from the bottom of the circle by junior Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa).
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at 15:14 of the third period after sophomore Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) buried the puck with a backhand shot into the stick side of the net from the crease, after a quick pass from junior Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) who was on the side of the net.
UNH outshot UVM 18-3 in the third period, holding off the Catamounts to win 2-1.

Robinson made 16 saves while Lekkas posted 38.
UNH outshot UVM by a 40-17 margin.
The Wildcats went 1-9 on the power play and the Catamounts finished 0-5.

Both Gildon and Engarås each scored their seventh goal of the season, with Engarås now scoring in back-to-back games.
Tonight's game-winning-goal for Engarås makes this his second of the season.
Gildon is now on a five-game point streak, with one goal and four assists for five points.
Grasso's assist puts him on a four-game point streak, with three goals and two assists for five points.
UNH is 10-3-1 at the Whittemore Center this season.
UNH leads Vermont 82-27-10 overall and 19-9-4 at the Whittemore Center.
