Zachary Astle named Most Outstanding Field Performer
BOSTON – University of New Hampshire senior thrower Zachary Astle(Newbury, N.H.) won his third straight America East Indoor shot put title as the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team finished in third place at the 2020 America East Indoor Championship meet at Boston University.
Astle won the shot put with a new personal best throw of 57'1.5", winning the indoor shot put title for the third straight year. It's Astle's fifth individual America East title and his second of the weekend, becoming the first Wildcat to take both America East Indoor throwing championships in the same season. Astle's sweep of the throwing events was also the first time UNH won both throwing events at the America East Indoor Championships since the 2007 Indoor Championships. In every meet so far this season, except for the Millrose Games, Astle has won every event he's been in.
On the track, the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Ian Daly(Meredith, N.H.), senior Samuel Lanternier(Derry, N.H.), sophomore Spenser Sawyer(Windham, N.H.) and senior Matthew Adams(Concord, N.H.) took runner-up with a finishing time of 7:38.50. It was UNH's best time in the 4x800 this season and was the highest finish on the track for the Wildcats on day two.

Sophomore Brian Genet(Merrimack, N.H.) took third in the heptathlon, beating his score from last year's indoor championships with a score of 4529. Genet took first in the heptathlon long jump with a personal best distance of 22'3.75".
In the high jump, sophomore Kevin McGrath(Hopkinton, N.H.) broke his personal best height with a jump that cleared 6'8.75", just shy of the school record of 6'9". His performance earned him a bronze medal with a third place finish.
Junior Michael Monahan(Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fourth in the 60m hurdle finals, finishing in 8.37 seconds.
In the triple jump, the duo of junior Jordan Buckmire(Nashua, N.H.) and Nate Hobbs(Peabody, Mass.) took fifth and sixth, respectively. Buckmire's fifth-place jump took him a distance of 48'5.5", and Hobbs' sixth place jump reached 46'5.25".
Three Wildcats found the podium in the 800m and 1000m runs:
In the 800, the 'Cats were led by Ian Dalytaking fourth with a personal best time of 1:55.39.
Matthew Adamsfollowed close behind in fifth at 1:55.42.
Sophomore Colin Conery(Concord, N.H.) took seventh in 1:56.19, a career-best time.
In the 1000, leading the way was Samuel Lanternierwith a fourth place finish in 2:26.43, a new personal best.
Finishing behind him in fifth was senior Alexander Saveliev(Concord, N.H.) with a new personal best time of 2:26.54.
Spenser Sawyerrounded out the pack in sixth with a time of 2:26.86.
In the 3000m, senior Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly(Chester, N.H.) took fifth overall with a new career best time of 8;17.21.
In the mile, junior Aidan Sullivan(Nashua, N.H.) set a new personal best time of 4:11.11, finishing sixth overall.
Also placing on the shot put podium with Astle was junior Jacob Dearborn(Wolfeboro, N.H.), taking sixth with a distance of 48'5.5".
The 4x400m relay team of senior Joseph Hook(Rockaway, N.J.), freshman Kenny McElroy(West Linn, Ore.), freshman Dillon Adamy(Clinton, N.J.) and Aidan Sullivantook eighth overall with a finish time of 3:26.04, UNH's best posted time in that event this season.
