Astle, Field Athletes Lead ‘Cats at ECAC/IC4As Day One

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire men's track & field team finished day one of competition at the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 7.
The Wildcats saw three field event scorers with some middle-distance and relay qualifications for Sunday. The Wildcats were led once again by senior thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) who took second in the weight throw with a distance of 63'6.75".
In the high jump, sophomore Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) scored with a fourth-place finish, clearing 6'6.5". In the long jump, sophomore Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) also scored with a distance of 22'8.25", good for a fifth-place finish.
Qualifying for Sunday's 1000-meter finals was senior Alexander Saveliev (Concord, N.H.) who took eighth in the qualifying with a time of 2:27.23. It just missed his personal best time set at the America East meet at 2:26.54.
Also qualifying for Sunday was the 4x800 team of senior Samuel Lanternier (Derry, N.H.), sophomore Spenser Sawyer (Windham, N.H.), Alexander Saveliev, and senior Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.) which finished in fifth in the qualifying, with a time of 7:34.40.
The Wildcats sit in fourth place after the first day of competition with 17 points.
