Storey's Buzzer Beater Downs Great Danes, 48-47

The senior finishes with her seventh 20+ point performance this season.
ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) hit a game-winning layup with 0.8 seconds remaining to lift the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 48-47 victory over the UAlbany Great Danes on Wednesday evening.
Storey's basket put her to 20 points, making it the seventh time this season she's scored 20 or more points in a contest. The game-winning basket was set up on an inbounds play with 2.7 seconds left, with freshman Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) lobbing it into the paint. Storey went up and caught the pass, gathered, and hit a layup before time ran out.
New Hampshire improves to 2-3 in conference play and 5-12 overall, the Great Danes are now 2-2 in America East play and 6-11 overall.
NEXT UP: The Wildcats continue their short two-game road trip as they head to UMBC on Saturday, January 18 for a 1 P.M. matchup with the Retrievers on ESPN+.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Storey's 20 points came on 8-of-17 shooting, 1-of-2 from behind the three-point line, and 3-of-4 at the free-throw line. She also notched a block and grabbed two steals, along with her 10 rebounds.
- Fellow senior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) shot 6-of-10 from the field for 12 points on the night, along with three boards, two steals and an assist.
- Another double-digit scoring performance for junior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) as she tallied 10 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. She also dished two assists and had one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- New Hampshire got out to an early lead with baskets from Storey and Torres, to lead 4-1 in the first two minutes.
- UNH would hold a small lead until the final play of the first quarter, a three-pointer by UAlbany's Patricia Conroy, to give the Great Danes their first lead of the contest at 15-14.
- Both teams would hold each other scoreless for the first four minutes of the second quarter, keeping the score 15-14; Amanda Torres hit a pair of free throws with 5:52 remaining to retake the lead, but UAlbany hit the first basket of the 2nd quarter on the next possession to take the lead back, 17-16.
- After another UNH lead the Great Danes tied the game up at 23-all with 2:15 to go; they would take the lead on a Khepera Stokes layup to lead 25-23 at halftime.
- UAlbany opened up the second half on an 8-0 run forcing a UNH timeout; the Great Danes would extend that run to 10-0, giving them their largest lead of the game at12 points, 35-23.
- UNH would respond with a pair of free throws and an Ashley Storey layup with 5:43 to go in the third, as the Wildcats began to claw back into the game, cutting the lead down to six points at the end of three.
- The Wildcats strung together a 10-0 run of their own at the end of the third and start of the fourth to tie the game at 39-all with just under eight to play in regulation.
- The teams traded free throws and baskets until an Ashley Storey free throw brought the Wildcats to within one, 47-46. A missed free throw resulted in a Great Danes possession, but a bad pass was stolen away by Héléna Delaruelle with just over 10 seconds left, giving the Wildcats one last shot.
- Delaruelle inbounded the ball with 2.7 seconds left to Storey in the paint. Storey caught the ball, settled, and jumped back up to lay the ball in with 0.8 seconds left on the clock.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Storey's double-double was her fifth career double-double, her third of the season, and her second in conference play.
- It's also Storey's second 20+ point performance in conference play this season.
- Storey has hit game-winning shots in both of UNH's America East wins this season; she most recently hit a game-winning layup against Hartford, to put the Wildcats up 72-71 in their first conference win.
- The win was UNH's first of the season when tallying under 50 points.
- Four blocks is the second most by the Wildcats as a team this season; they blocked five shots against Hartford.
- This was UNH's first road win since its 68-65 victory at Bryant earlier this season. (Nov. 9, 2019).
