Maultsby Nets Career-High 16 Points in 76-73 OT Loss to UAlbany

DURHAM, N.H. – Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a career-high 16 points in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 76-73 overtime loss in Wednesday night's America East matchup against UAlbany at Lundholm Gym.
Maultsby made a personal-best four 3-pointers, had two steals and two assists. Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) recorded 15 points, nine rebounds and a team-high three steals. Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) scored 13 points – all in the first half, including three 3-pointers – and pulled down eight boards.
Ahmad Clark led the Great Danes with a game-high 27 points and six rebounds. Cameron Healy added 18 points and seven rebounds.
UAlbany hands UNH its first home loss of the season to improve to 10-8 overall and 3-0 in America East. New Hampshire is now 8-9 overall, 1-3 in the conference and 6-1 at home.

FIRST HALF
•Lester opened the scoring just under two minutes into the game when he drove the hoop. Lester netted the team's first 11 points to give the Wildcats an 11-6 lead at 16:25.
•UNH inched ahead16-9 on a 3-pointer by Maultsby at 15:11.
•The Great Danes chipped away and tied the score 25-25 at 7:20 and then UAlbany took its first lead when Ahmed Clark sunk a 3-pointer at 6:35.
•The visitors hit another 3-ball to extend the run to 9-0 and advantage to 31-25 at 5:40.
•A layup by Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) ended the spurt at 5:22.
•UAlbany held the lead the rest of the half, but Maultsby hit a 3-pointer with 36 seconds remaining to shrink the Great Danes' lead going into the second half to 41-35.
SECOND HALF
•UNH struggled in the opening minutes, but Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) scored at 15:48 to trim the deficit to 10 points, 48-38.
•At 12:46, Sutherlin stole the ball and went the length of the court to for a dunk that helped ignite an 11-0 run. UNH the momentum in UNH's offensive play.
•With the score 53-50 in favor of the Great Danes, Sutherlin once again stole the ball and quickly transitioned upcourt to Maultsby, who drained a 3-ball to tie the score for the first time in the half (at 10:43).
The Great Danes responded with a 6-1 spurt to build a 60-54 lead at 8:08.
•UNH took its first lead of the half at 6:39 when Martinez battled his defender to the hoop and made the layup to make the score 61-60.
•With 1:41 left in the game, Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) stripped the ball to keep the score 65-63 in favor of the Wildcats.
•Guadarrama made a key defensive stop when he drew an offensive charge to give the Wildcats possession of the ball with 39 seconds left in regulation.
•With 27 seconds to play, the Wildcats turned the ball over at halfcourt but the 'Cats made a defensive stop and Sutherlin hit a foul shot to advance the score to 66-63 with 24 seconds on the clock.
•UAlbany's Clark tied the score with 13 seconds left on a 3-pointer, and UNH was unable to get another scoring opportunity.

OVERTIME
- Maultsby set the tone for UNH early in the overtime period at 4:12 with a steal that led to Sutherlin's field goal at 4:12.
- UAlbany took its first lead of overtime, 70-69, at 1:42 on a pair of Clark foul shots, but Guadarrama sunk his two free throws for the Wildcats to retake the lead 71-70, at 1:17.
- With 10 seconds left, the Wildcats led 73-72 with possession of the ball. The Great Danes put hard pressure on the inbounds pass and forced a turnover that resulted in a layup from Antonio Rizzuto and the visitors taking their first lead of overtime, 74-73, with 3.9 seconds remaining.
- UNH committed another turnover and Healy sunk two free throws to push the margin to 76-73.
- Guadarrama's halfcourt shot fell short at the buzzer to end the game.
