A pair of seniors and a freshman are set to compete in Jacksonville this week.
DURHAM, N.H. – Three University of New Hampshire men's track & field athletes are headed to the University of North Florida for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary meet, taking place Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25. Freshman school-record holder Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) along with seniors Eric Brogioli (Milford, Mass.), and Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) will travel down to Jacksonville, Florida with a place in the NCAA Outdoor Championship meet on the line.
Hobbs exploded on to the UNH track and field scene in the long jump, where he won the America East outdoor long jump earlier this May. With his winning jump of 24'9.75", Hobbs not only broke the school record that had stood since 1958 (24'), he also tied a conference record of 19 years. Hobbs then became the first Wildcat to win the ECAC/IC4A long jump in program history, with his jump of 24'7.75".
The pair of senior hammer throwers, Brogioli and Chapman, both set new personal bests at the ECAC/IC4A outdoor championships to cement their place in the preliminary meet. Brogioli's top mark this year came in at 192'4", finishing fourth at ECAC's, and Chapman's new career best mark came in at 192'2". This came after they both scored in the event at America East outdoors, both finishing in the top four.
"Eric and Jon are really excited, Natahan is his ever-quiet self," says head coach Jim Boulanger "We're very excited to have a group going, when it didn't look that way a few weeks ago. At the end of the season, everyone popped, and did well."
All three athletes compete Thursday afternoon, with the hammer throw beginning at noon and the long jump taking place at 3:30 P.M.
