Three Wildcat field athletes took on the East’s best in Jacksonville.
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Three members of the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team competed Thursday, May 23 in the NCAA East Preliminary Championship meet, hosted by the University of North Florida.
Freshman jumper Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) ended his first collegiate track season with a long jump distance of 23'4.75". He finished sixth in his heat, and 31st overall. Hobbs is coming off a historic conference championship meet, where he won gold in that event and broke a school record that had stood since 1958. Nate was also the first Wildcat to win the outdoor ECAC/IC4A long jump, and was UNH's first true freshman in the preliminary round since 2008.
Senior throwers Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) and Eric Brogioli (Milford, Mass.) each competed in the hammer throw; Chapman took third in his flight, with a distance of 187'6", and Brogioli took 12th in his heat at 179'8". With all three flights completed, Chapman finished in 31st and Brogioli finished in 43rd.
Though no Wildcats will move on to Austin, both of UNH's top finishers, Hobbs and Chapman, performed above what they were seeded in their events.
