Hobbs, Chapman Lead ‘Cats at Penn Relays

Two individual runner ups and a top-finishing DMR team highlight UNH at the Penn Relays.
PHILADELPHIA – The University of New Hampshire men's track & field team sent 16 athletes down to the 125th annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The Wildcats saw two runner up finishes in field events, and a relay team finishing in the top four.
Freshman Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) took runner up in the men's long jump, with a new personal best distance of 23'10.25". His jump was just 1/4th of an inch further than the third place jumper. Hobbs also placed 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 45'2.25", which was another new personal best.
Senior Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) took second in the hammer throw, with a best throw of 189'6", beating his old career best by over a foot. He beat out the third-place thrower by just an inch, and was behind first place Kelly Cook Jr. of William & Mary who finished with 191'7".
The distance medley relay team of sophomore Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), fifth-year Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.), junior Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.), and senior William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) took fourth in a stacked competitive field, with a time of 9:59.49. The only teams finishing ahead of UNH in the event were Tennessee, Pitt, and Fordham.

The America East outdoor championship meet takes place next Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, hosted by UAlbany.

- Sophomore Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.) took fourth in the triple jump Saturday morning, with a distance of 47 feet, 9 inches. Buckmire also finished 13th in the long jump with a new personal best mark of 22'6.5".
- The team of Harter, Adams, junior Samuel Lanternier (Derry, N.H.) and Ulrich took fifth in the 4x800 relay, with a time of 7:45.76.
- In the 4xmile relay, the Wildcats placed 12th in 17:25.44; the team consisted of sophomore James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.), senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.), Aidan Sullivan, and fifth-year Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.).
- Senior Hani Traboulsi (Bensalem, Pa.) took 25th in the discus throw with a distance of 138'4".
