MacKinnon scores first collegiate goal.
LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman Will MacKinnon (Plymouth, Mich.) scored his first collegiate goal and sophomore Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) also found the back of the net as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team tied No. 14 UMass Lowell in overtime, 2-2, on Saturday night at the Tsongas Center. With the tie, the Wildcats are now 12-12-9 overall (8-9-6 HEA) while UMass Lowell is 18-11-4 (12-7-4 HEA). This was the ninth tie for the Wildcats this season, setting a new Hockey East record. UNH also set the school record for overtime games played at 13.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats will conclude their regular season play with a contest at Matthews Arena versus Northeastern on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. UNH will then play a best two-out-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series on the road on March 15-17. The Wildcats are currently in eighth place with 22 points while Boston College is seventh with 23 points. The Wildcats own the tie breaker with the Eagles as UNH went 1-0-1 versus BC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass Lowell posted the first goal of the game at 4:14 in the first period. Nick Master collected the puck behind the net and sent a pass into the slot to Kenny Hausinger for a one-time shot to the upper stick-side of the net.
- The Wildcats answered with an equalizer at 7:54 from MacKinnon when he scored his first collegiate goal. Sophomore Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) dished the puck behind to MacKinnon who was set up at the blue line, and then launched a shot that slipped under goalie Tyler Wall.
- UNH took the 2-1 lead off a power play goal scored by Gildon. Thirty-three seconds into the Wildcats' first power play, Gildon skated across the slot to the right side of the net and sent a shot that entered the lower stick-side of the goal. Senior Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.) recorded the assist.
- The Wildcats outshot the River Hawks 12-6 in the first period and also went 1-1 on the power play.
- UMass Lowell tied the game up 2-2 at 15:25 in the second period with a power play goal. Chase Blackmun sent a pass from the point to Connor Wilson at the face-off circle, who fired a wrist shot to the upper-stick side of the net.
- Sophomore Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) denied the River Hawks from taking the lead during a UMass Lowell power play for the remaining 43 seconds of the second period. Lucas Condotta took a one-time shot at the crease but Robinson was able to snatch the puck. On the next play, Robinson rejected Ryan Dmowski's initial shot and his following rebound to keep the score tied at 2-2.
- UMass Lowell edged UNH in shots during the second period 9-8, while UNH went 0-3 on the power play and UMass Lowell went 1-1.
- After a battle of a third period, the score remained 2-2 and the game headed into overtime. The Wildcats led in shots 6-5 in the third period.
- Neither team was able to net a goal in the overtime period, resulting in a final score of 2-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH outshot UMass Lowell by a 32-21 margin.
- Robinson made 19 saves, while Wall recorded 30.
- The Wildcats went 1-4 on the power play and the River Hawks went 1-3.
