UNH Falls to #9 NU; Wildcats to Play at #2 UMass

Wildcats to take on the Minutemen in Hockey East quarterfinals on March 15-17.
BOSTON, Mass. – Biagio Lerario (Addison, Ill.) found the back of the net twice for the Huskies as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 9 Northeastern, 4-0, on Friday night at Matthews Arena. The Wildcats conclude the regular season 12-13-9 overall (8-10-6 HEA), while Northeastern is 23-10-1 (15-8-1 HEA).
UP NEXT: UNH will be the No. 8 seed in the Hockey East Tournament and will play a best two-out-of-three quarterfinal series on the road at No. 1 seed and No. 2 nationally ranked UMass on March 15-17 at the Mullins Center at 7 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first period went scoreless as the Wildcats outshot the Huskies 11-5.
- Northeastern took its first lead of the game at 3:26 of the second when Jordan Harris sent a shot from the blue line that deflected off the post as Lerario buried a wrist shot into the upper stick side of the net, bringing the score to 1-0.
- Northeastern struck again 2:44 later, when Eric Williams ripped a shot that Lerario was able to redirect into the glove side of the net, giving the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.
- The Huskies extended their lead to 3-0 when Tyler Madden fired a cross-pass to Liam Pecararo as he placed the puck into the lower stick side of the net at 10:29 of the second period.
- At the end of the second period, sophomore Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made four saves, while Cayden Primeau posted eight. UNH went 0-1 on the power play, while Northeastern went 0-2.
- UNH was called for a five-minute major at 2:28 of the third period, but the Wildcats defense was able to stay strong to keep the Huskies from scoring.
- At 8:14 of the third period, Northeastern increased its lead off a shorthanded goal, as John Picking ripped a shot into the glove side of the net from the right face-off circle, bringing the final score to 4-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH outshot Northeastern by a 35-24 margin.
- Robinson made 20 saves, while Primeau recorded 32 and Ryan Ruck posted three.
- The Wildcats went 0-4 on the power play and the Huskies went 0-3.
