Magarity Moves to No. 2 Spot in UNH Career Wins
VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) had her second double-double of the season and freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) led all players with 14 points to pace the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 54-53 win over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
The win was No. 136 for coach Maureen Magarity at UNH, moving her into the second spot on the program's career list for victories.
The Wildcats earned a split of the season series with the Bearcats and won consecutive America East games for the first time this season. They were coming off a 54-46 win over UMass Lowell on Wednesday night.
They improved to 6-18 overall and 3-8 in the league.
Binghamton fell to 9-15 and 4-7.
UNH returns home to play Vermont on Wednesday night at 7 in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats played their ninth game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out with a foot injury and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
Sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) had 12 points for the Wildcats.
Senior Rebecca Carmody had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Binghamton.

Brekke has led the Wildcats in scoring in their last three games and led or shared the scoring lead in six of the last seven.
Soucy had a career high in rebounds on the way to her second double-double of her career and the season.
Freshman forward Mary Foster (Elmira, N.Y.) scored seven points, all in the second quarter, to help the Wildcats to a 25-24 lead at the half. She had scored two points for the season coming into the game.
Binghamton made 20 of its 65 shots (30.8 percent) and only two of its 15 three-point attempts (13.3 percent).
The Bearcats took a 44-43 lead with 4:51 left in fourth period.
Brekke answered with a three-pointer and the Wildcats never trailed again.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Binghamton led 14-11 after the first period.
Foster scored seven points in the second quarter to lead UNH to a 25-24 advantage at the half.
The Wildcats had a 25-21 edge in rebounding at the break.
Soucy led the way with nine first-half rebounds.
UNH took a 43-38 lead after three periods.
The Wildcats led 46-44 on Brekke's three-pointer with 4:30 left in the fourth period.
They pushed the lead to 51-44 with just under a minute to play.
Binghamton chipped away at the lead and cut it to 54-53 with two seconds left.
The Bearcats got the ball back and had a final shot that was missed.
