DMR Team Leads ‘Cats to Third After Day One

Relays and throwers give UNH a top-3 team score after one day of competition.
BOSTON - Day one of the America East Championships has concluded, with the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team in 3rd place heading into the second day of the meet. Scoring an impressive 28 points, the Wildcats trail Lowell (30 points) and Albany (41.5 points), to stand in third place out of nine.
The Wildcats were led by the distance medley team, comprising of Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.), Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.), and William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.), took first place, with a time of 9 minutes, 49.98 seconds, almost a full five seconds ahead of second place UMass Lowell.
Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) was the first of two Wildcats to set a new career high, additionally earning All-Conference Honors by placing second in the weight throw, with a distance of 61 feet, 2.25 inches. Last year, Astle was also named All-Conference, when he took home second place in the weight throw.
Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) came in seventh in the 5000 meter run, while also breaking his previous career high in this event, coming in at a time of 14:32.75. His previous career high was 14:45.88

- Freshman Chris Pinkham (Concord, N.H.) placed eighth in the men's 500-meter dash prelims, with a time of 1:04.95. That time qualifies him for tomorrow's 500 meter finals.
- The Wildcats had three additional scorers in the weight throw: Eric Brogioli (Milford, Mass) took fifth, with a distance of 58'1.25", Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) took sixth with a distance of 54'3.75", and Edward Speidel (Dover, N.H.) taking eighth with 53'5.5".
- In the Heptathalon, UNH had two athletes place in the 60 meter dash, Frederick Schaake (Hampton, N.H.) and Michael Monahan (Tewksbury, Mass.), with times of 7.44 seconds and 7.66 seconds respectively.
- Schaake and Brian Genet (Merrimack, N.h.) also tied in the high jump, both scoring a height of 5'8.75". The pair are also ranked fifth and sixth in the long jump; Genet took fifth with 20'7", Schakke took sixth with 19'11".
- Schaake and Monahan also scored in the shot put for the heptathlon, Schakke took third with 39'0.25"¸and Monahan was in sixth with a throw of 35'4".
- Following the conclusion of day one of the Heptathalon, Schaake currently stands in fifth place, scoring 2519 points. Genet holds ninth place with 2389, and Monahan sits in 11th with 2286.
